Do you have the luck of the Irish? -The 56th Annual St Patricks Day Parade in Baltimore City

Do you have the luck of the Irish? -The 56th Annual St Patricks Day Parade in Baltimore City

Everyone loves a parade and they do not get any better than the largest Maryland parade that celebrates the Festival of the Irish that marches through the heart of Baltimore City on Sunday March 11th.

Irish in BaltimoreMarch is the month that everyone in Baltimore thinks they are Irish no matter what their true heritage is. (True Irish call these people "Plastic Paddies") Kelly green and every other shade of green is worn by many. Personally I enjoy seeing the men wearing the colorful kilts- I wonder how many wear them the true way and without underwear?

The traditional St Patricks Day Parade is always the Sunday before St Patricks Day which this year is Sunday March 11th. It is a huge event that kicks off with the Shamrock 5K race that starts at 1.15pm. The actual Parade starts at 2:00pm & usually lasts for a couple of hours rain, snow, sleet or shine (although the past few years have been delightful). Lots of bagpipes, Irish dancing and in an election year, sure to be plenty of politicians taking advantage of the huge crowd of people. Our Irish Governor, Martin O'Malley, makes an appearance, although in yesteryear he brought his band, O'Malley's March to the people. (Maybe they can play again at his Presidential Inauguration in 2016!)
