Just about the time my books arrived I also received a note from some special clients. I worked with them twice over the years they were in the Baltimore area, once to buy and fix up a home, and then again when they sold it and moved to Texas.
It was nice to hear from the Richardsons again, especially with this email (reprinted with permission):

Yesterday, to the sheer delight of many, many Houstonians (including Alex & Alyssa) snow fell for several hours in Houston, TX. That's right, Houston TEXAS!! It was a really enormous deal here. Snow comes once in a decade around this tropical locale! I mean, people were treating this as though it was the Blizzard of 1996 for the east coast! Real serious!
Well, Alyssa was more than thrilled. You see, being newly 5 and having lived in Houston the last 3 winters, Alyssa does not remember snow at all. She has only seen pictures and been told over & over (and over and over and over....) by her loving big brother of the great fun snow has to offer. (Ok, so we must confess the snow we purchased last year from the mall pales in comparison!) So, when it got a bit cold literally over-night, Alyssa found herself pleading with God, "Please let it snow! Please let it snow! Oh, please!"
At about 4:30 pm yesterday, Alyssa's prayer was answered (any and all prayer requests must come well after her mom's and dad's and should be submitted in writing, please!): SNOW fell in Houston!
Okay, so it was maybe a millimeter, but in was life altering. Many of the teens at my church (and for that matter, several adults) had NEVER seen snow in real life. The church was giddy!
So, even though it was well after their normal bedtime, I allowed Alex to show his baby sis just how much fun they could have playing TOGETHER in snow.
Two wonderful things happened last night that will change Alyssa's outlook on life:
1. It can even snow in Houston (or anything is possible), and, more importantly
2. God listens to her and answers her!
I thank God for giving both my kids a night they won't soon forget.
What a nice holiday treat to hear from this family and see how the children have grown. Once again I was reminded that real estate is not about sticks and bricks…it is about people and long term relationships.

This is a wonderful example of relationships made through real estate.
Margaret,

What an exciting event for your kids! If you ever need some snow just let us know. Here in New Hamppshire we always have more than we know what to do with! As a matter of fact, we have 2 storm on the way!
Hey Margaret,
We are looking at 6" to 12" here in Westchester and Putnam Countiesin the state of New York. It will be starting between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm tomorrow. We are not use to this so soon in the Winter.
Margaret, How nice for these folks to stay in touch with you! It's nice to see family photos from past clients, I wish more would send them.
Reminds me of my childhood in Clute. We would get one good snow each year - enough to make a snowman and some snow slush.
Hi Margaret - a great testament to wonderful relationships we can all build in real estate. And I'm not at all surprised that you have an email like this one to share with us.
By the way, please tell your friends that they can please keep all the snow down their way this winter. They are welcome to it!
Ann
That is a really rare event. I would never imagine any snow in Houston. People there must be excited about the snow.
Margaret, I was home working that day and completely missed out on it. Now my son who was in Iraq told me that it was snowing. I'm still not sure how he knew it before I did. My husband did say it snowed at the airport but like I said I missed it. Oh well I had enough of it in Kansas and Colorado. Shoot we moved to North Carolina for a couple of years and had record snow falls follow us there also.
Margaret we are supposed to get close to a foot tomorrow. I would not mind shipping a bunch of it out of here! I can imagine the kids must have thought it was awesome. It's funny how you have a different perspective on something like this when it is there all the time.
Margaret that Houston snow event was amazing!! Glad all had fun with it.
Margaret,
Snow in Houston? Hard to believe, but it looks like in came just in time for a little FUN! What a great treat for these kids, Happy Holidays!
Neal, Many envy your 85 degree weather. I am one of the few that really enjoy cold temperatures.
Elayna, Hope you and your girls have a wonderful holiday. Look forward to speaking with you.
Joan, Those kids really enjoyed the snow a lot more than you. Stay safe and warm.
Thomas, Like I said above, Stay safe and warm.
April, I do believe if we stay in touch with our clients/friends, the photos will come.
Tim and Pam, Sounds like you made some good memories.
Ann, Knowing you, I have a feeling that you have many wonderful emails and letters from your clients. Every one listen up "keep the snow in the south"
Huiting, These kids certainly were excited! Thanks for stopping by.
Marchal, I would say you are really absorbed in your work. Was it because of blogging on Active Rain.
Bill, Don't think it would hold up during the shipping. You are right, this gives us a different perspective.
Gary, It was a pleasure seeing these kids smile!
Michelle, A real treat in Houston. Happy holidays to you!
GEE, it never did that, SNOW, while I was there. I am glad that they had the pleasure to see snow again.
Margaret—What great lessons for everyone to learn. I returned to the mainland last Mar after living in Hawaii for several years. I thought I had waited long enough to avoid the cold weather. WRONG! I snowed 9 inches in Flower Mound, TX within twenty-four hours of my arrival. Weather in Texas can change with a blink of an eye.
I love hearing from my past clients too. I hope we will get some snow this year....we are past due.
I am so excited that I won a copy of your book at the party yesterday!
Don, Guess you didn't wait long enough.
Linda, That's a lot of snow that greeted you
Ann, The people up north are ready to send you that snow.
Congratulations! Let me know how you would like me to sign the book. It is ready to go!
Connie, They are such a special family. We had a wonderful relationship. Happy Holidays to you
Margaret,
This email just shows what kind of a relationship you have with this family. Friends first, clients by choice.
Rebecca, Actually first met this family through my daughter, Erica. Starting off as clients and growing into friends for life. Thanks for stopping by.
Snow in the Houston area is a big deal. I bet the entire city was shut down, schools closed, road un drivable. Ive seen snow 7 times in my life.
Richard, Were those 7 times all in Texas?
Margaret- I loved this story...your client has a wonderful writing style. And you are so right about Real Estate being about people and the Relationships we build with them. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story.
Kathy, Yes, Nicole is a good writer. People and relationships is what our Real Estate is all about. Thank you for always being so supportive.
'Heading to Houston on Sunday and definately hoping for NO snow!
'Nice update from your clients, Margaret.
