How Many is Too Many Resolutions?

Happy new YearMy publisher asked if I had any real estate New Year's Resolutions…she should know better by now than to ask a Type E such a question! Ask for a solution and the Type E brain answers with a jumble of possibilities as if to say, "Here! Try these!"

Here's what came out of mine. Yes, I know they are not all strictly real estate-related, but they all have an effect on how I do business:

  • Contact my listings for review and price adjustments.
  • Get taxes ready for my CPA.
  • Healthy foodBe available to Lee and Erica.
  • Call past clients to wish them a Happy New Year.
  • Get some new signs made.
  • Get up to speed on Twitter and other social/business networking sites.
  • Get my car washed BEFORE it needs it and I am embarrassed.
  • Continue with my gym program.
  • Make healthy eating choices.
  • Go to bed early at least one night a week.
  • Clean my desk.
  • Fill my bird feeders – even the one that the squirrels have taken over.Squirrel
  • Offer sellers and agents the option of Auction.
  • Get on the top 10 book list. Oh yes, I already did that with Trulia.
  • Attend more Active Rain gatherings.
  • Loaded DeskCall all the sellers who I recommended they wait to list thier homes.
  • Stay in touch with the CyberStars through the listserve.
  • Stay in touch with the CyberProfessionals.
  • Being an ACRE ambassador, help share this group's philosophy.
  • When I choose to have chocolate....really enjoy it!
  • Mentor newer agents like Steve Warrene.
  • Find out what I can do to promote Silloway Press.
  • Speak more about Realtor-friendly auctions.
  • Get more publicity for Real Estate the Rome Way.
  • Take no more unsaleable listings.
  • Accept no more kindness-impaired clients.
  • Stay in touch special people
  • FireworksCall and encourage new Active Rainers.

I think the more the merrier when it comes to positive thoughts for the new year. What about you? Do you have one or two or a score of resolutions?

Jason, That list took about 30 seconds. No disappointments, just keep doing what you are doing. You are quite the inspiration

Maggie, That is funny! Let me know which ones you pick.

Margaret - well I am pretty impressed with your resolutions. And of course will be even more so when you accomplish all of them. How long are you giving yourself - a day? a wekk?

Happy New Year!

Jeff

Margaret, great list. Got your book today. One of my resolutions is to read and digest your new book. Thanks so much for it.

Margaret, I have one resolution....though I am a type A, I refuse to make any resolutions...how's that one?

Pepper

Huiting, Stay away from Kindness impaired people, not just clients.

Jeff D.  What list?  No, some can be done today. Many are daily and weekly tasks.

Gary, Glad the book arrived. I like your resolution.

Lisa, Car wash is good. Taxes by October? You do mean next years, I hope.

Teri, Have a feeling that you are a Type E and not a Type A. Have you taken the Type E quiz?

Jeff, You blog pretty well when you are sleeping..or is that your double? Thanks again for arranging the Annapolis AR gathering.

( 12/31/08 06:40AM ) — Harold (Hal) Place

Morning Margaret,

Thanks for the list. I don't usually start the year with a resolution as such, I just vow to do the best I can. That works for me, it is always up front and not easily forgotten or over looked.

Happy New Year to you and yours.

Margaret,

I am not sure I should be showing my lack of knowledge but, what is a type E personality?

BTW, thank you for the list.

I hope that you have a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Hi Margaret,

I really don't have many resolutions but I do think next year will be a better year in general......it might take some time. Happy New Year to you and yours.

This is a just right list, I have many of those items on my list as well! Happy New Year!

Margaret~

NOW this is some list...I am not sure if we should limit our list of resolutions, especially since many of them actually may turn out to be remedies...=)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Margaret,

I passed the quiz, I think?!?!  I now know that I am Type E Manager.

I do not know if it is too many but that sure is a lot. Please do not forget to feed the Birds!!

Good luck with the book!!

( 12/31/08 11:50AM ) — Jake Forbes

Margaret, good luck with all your New Year's Resolutions! I have a list as long as yours.

I try to keep my resoultion simple and achievable. It works out a lot better that way.

( 12/31/08 11:54AM ) — Tom Larsen

...and tomorrow you'll forget where you put this list LOL!

Happy new Year!

( 12/31/08 11:58AM ) — Kris Kombrink ~ The Kombrink Team

Sounds like quite the laundry list of resolutions there, Margaret!  I don't make any resolutions at all.  I just try and reenergize and start the year off on the right foot.

Twitter

You can't have too many, as long as you don't let it overwhelm you and cause you to loose focus.

Margaret - Thanks for your kind words.  I hope you have a stellar 2009!

What is the type E quiz ?

( 12/31/08 01:18PM ) — Camille O'Donnell

Hey Margaret,

Good post, you know I am a Type E fur shore.  Read my latest blog: I got carried away-Ha

( 12/31/08 01:46PM ) — ROBERT A.SWETZ - Commercial Real Estate

Margaret - Great post and a star form the AR gods and LATE NIGHT - EARLY MORNING AT ACTIVERAIN

I only have three resolutions for 2009 and I might add some alone the way. I don't believe a person can have to many and even if some of them become true, it's better than nothing.

Wow, you make me tired just thinking about these. Happy New Year.

Margaret, I am sure you will be very successful with sticking to your resolutions.

Happy New Year!

Hi Margaret...Enjoyment is at the top of my list whether while working or during my "free" time.

Happy New Year and loads of success with your book.

Kate

( 12/31/08 04:00PM ) — M Starr

Wow... I don't have a list. Guess I'll have to see what the other half cooks up. Wishing you the best for the New Year. :-)

Hi Margaret - oh how I love your list of resolutions!  And some of those will be showing up on my list as well.  I've been carrying it around in my head, but will be putting them down in writing, along with my plan and roadmap for a great 2009.  I'm going to be working on that tomorrow, as well as working on taking some good steps on some of those resolutions, too.

Hapy New Year,
Ann

( 12/31/08 04:54PM ) — marti garaughty

My dear friend Margaret, you were such an important part of my 2008 and again I thank you for that. I laughed when I read your note about really enjoying chocolate when you have it! YESSSSSSSSS!!!

I wish you, Lee and Erica the happiest New Year possible!

Margaret - what impresses me about your list is that I know that you'll  accomplish everything! I'm training for the Music City 1/5 Marathon so that takes care of most of my health/eating resolutions. The only other "resolution" I am focusing on this year is being more organized w/better systems. I am determined to get this part of my life under control! Happy New Year!

( 12/31/08 06:26PM ) — Margaret Rome-- HomeRome Realty

I have met one of my end of the year resolutions by calling each and every person who have commented on this post. It was great speaking with most of you and the rest I left Happy New Year messages.

No more resolutions! I am done! LOL

Oh nooooooooo Anne, C Tann, mARTi and Connie, you just slipped in comments! Happy New Year!

Hi Margaret...Reading your Book, Love It. I dropped by to wish you and your family a Happy and Prosperous Year in 2009!

Cheers...Happy New Year from Fred Carver

Margaret,

I like your list of resolutions --   They are great. They are all good to follow, here are some others that I am adding to my list.

My resolutions are;

 1. To work to double my income at a minimum,

2 Work on branding my name and my "tag line" and to have my Tag Line be a

house hold name in real estate within my area.  ( Good idea thanks to your book)

 3. Learn all I can.

 4. Network in bigger and higher end groups.

 5. To work on getting my web site noticed more www.WesternPaRealEstate.com

 6. To work with Margaret as much as I can -- you are one smart and successful woman.

 7. Everything has room to get better so I am also going to focus on bettering my Listing Presentation.

Margaret you r book gave me some real good ideas.  I wish you the best of luck in 2009.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having several goals and resolutions.  It gives us something to work towards.

Margaret, thank you for the phone call...loved hearing your "southern" voice. Happy New Year...and I will get to that test, promise. ;-)

Pepper

That is hilarious- "Kindness impaired clients" I love that! I enjoyed reading your resolutions! Happy New Year!

WoW.. Great Question.... Never want to make a huge list of resolutions. Only a limited number so you can achieve them.

Looks like a good list -- if you can do half of those things - you will have a great 2009! (lol)!  Happy New Year and great success with your book.

Hi Margaret, thanks for the call and the information. I did the Equiz, result was 27, I will have to compare that with my true color and my Heritage Profile, to see if everything meshes.

I'll be talking to you on AR. Have a great 2009 in all areas of your life, Ann

( 01/01/09 08:31AM ) — Margaret Rome-- HomeRome Realty

Steve, About your first resolution...how many 'signings' does that translate in to? You know what I mean.

Oops see comments are not being saved. I'll be back

( 01/01/09 08:43AM ) — Margaret Rome-- HomeRome Realty

Ann H, Another Type E...how fun

Joan, Happy New Year. I've done quite a few on the list.

Roland, Just do what you do what you do best.

Kristi, Thank you. I love using "kindness impaired". It softens many a situation.

Teri, That accent comes out more when I am a bit tired.

Christine, Always need goals. Here's to a successful '09

Fred, Thanks for the fireworks. Ours in Baltimore were canceled due to the high winds.

Margaret - I couldn't help laughing out loud when I got your message and then saw your

"Oh nooooooooo Anne, C Tann, mARTi and Connie, you just slipped in comments! Happy New Year!"

I forget how fast things happen. I've really stepped out of my "box" today thanks to you, and done a post this afternoon!!! :)

( 01/01/09 04:40PM ) — Patricia Kennedy

Resolutions, Humbug!  And have a wonderful 2009!

( 01/01/09 05:29PM ) — Margaret Rome-- HomeRome Realty

Connie, Congratulations on your first sale of 2009! I am so proud and so excited for you. Your clients are lucky to be working with you.

Pat, I don't make resolutions and I don't make lists. This was a spur of the moment response when Peg asked. Happy New Year. Make it good one!

Margaret. Thank you for being such a dedicated ActiveRainER. I went through your list and my smile went away when I read "taxes" and "CPA" - definitely NOT my favorite time of the year.  I admire and share the fact that you do not work with kindness-impaired clients. No one likes jerks as clients, but sometimes necessity (sometimes greed) makes us deal with a few of them. I made this decision a while ago. I may not die rich, but probably will die happier because I enjoyed my job more.  Well, that's the way I see it. Thank you for everything and Happy New Year.

( 01/02/09 04:20AM ) — Maria Morton

Well, Margaret, the first thing I'd do every day would be to fill the bird feeders!

( 01/02/09 05:05AM ) — Margaret Rome-- HomeRome Realty

Elayna

Thanks for stopping by. I want to know more about your business and you. You have a beautiful, family but I don't know how you keep the the E names straight. Happy New Year!

( 01/02/09 05:09AM ) — Margaret Rome-- HomeRome Realty

Maria, Looking at the time posted, I am guessing one of your groups might be  LATE NIGHT - EARLY MORNING AT ACTIVERAIN

Those squirrel bird feeders are large enough to go for a week.

Great list Margaret...oh surprise..the book arrived in Wisconsin 12.30...tonite we begin a new ritual..."Bedtime Stories With Margaret" and other mind expanding thoughts to sleep on, mold and put into action...our very best wishes for your continued success and a healthy, happy 09 !

( 01/02/09 07:42AM ) — Margaret Rome-- HomeRome Realty

Sally and David, I will be thinking about you both after midnight. Sweet dreams. You two are an inspiration! Sally, how are you feeling?

Bedtime stories with Margaret.....I love it!

I totally agree with everything you wrote, especially NOT TAKING ANY MORE "UNSALEABLE LISTINGS!"

( 01/02/09 07:28PM ) — Margaret Rome-- HomeRome Realty

Michael, You agree because you know how to say, NO.

Allen, Be my guest, take as many as you like.

( 01/04/09 05:10PM ) — Dee Nofziger, Toledo OH Real Estate

I have added "stay away from kindness impaired clients" and "take no more unsaleable listings" to my own personal list. Thanks Margaret.

( 01/04/09 05:39PM ) — Margaret Rome-- HomeRome Realty

Dee, Those two can help make a Happy New Year.
