Flag Ponds Nature Park in Lusby, Maryland is one of three public beaches on the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County. Visitors frequently find ancient fossils deposited from the Calvert Cliffs. Several miles of trails lead you through a variety of habitats from upland forest, wooded swamps, open marshes and to the beach dune community typical of the Eastern Shore or the Carolinas'. The half-mile walk to the beach takes you past relics of a pound net fishery operation from the early 1950's. Flag Ponds is open to the public on Saturdays and Sunday, only, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. until Memorial Day. Entrance fee is required. Flag Ponds is open daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
