I've been away this weekend on a fun mini-reunion with some of my closest high school friends.
I returned yesterday and was getting ready to return the rental car when suddenly with horror I saw a lizard running in my garage.
I am now stuck in my driveway because I don't have a front-door key and I will not pass the lizard to go inside the house.
The evil beast frolicked under my car and over my kids bicycles and finally ran behind my trash can while I stood horrified.
I frantically called my husband to help shoo it away. By the time he got here the lizard could not be found.
In his attempt to find the lizard to calm his hysterical wife he found 2 other dead lizards on glue traps we have in the garage. Now my hysteria is at a fever pitch as I realize that there have been other lizards and that this particular one cannot be found.
If it was up to me I would throw away absolutely everything that's in the garage and I told my husband that I am not going into the garage.
I think he thought I was joking until this morning when I handed him my car keys to back my car out of the garage for me so that I could go to work.
I know many people are shaking their heads thinking that I am being ridiculous. Let me be clear, I KNOW that I am being ridiculous. However, that changes nothing about how terrified I feel.
The hallmark of a phobia is it's irrationality. If I was completely rational then I wouldn't have a phobia.
I can't even research ways to control or eradicate the lizards because all the sites have pictures and I can't even stomach these pictures.
Up to last year I had no idea there were lizards in Maryland. I even encountered one during a showing.
One of my students asked me if I was going to put the house on the market now. If I thought I could break even, I may consider it because now my peace is shattered!
