Heard Of Kids Heading To College And The First Night There, Bailing Out, Out Of There?

Do your kids travel, experience life away from home?

Sporting events, model state legislature, family maine winter sunset, maine horse farmvacations? College away from your hometown where you do the laundry, mom and dad are not there to remind you to study, or when to be home from that party.

When I was a kid, my dad was a potato farmer. We took lots of trips to Mt Katahdin and the Maine coastline for vacations. Off to the Hotel Frontinac in Quebec City one winter during the carnival with my three older brothers. And I spent alot of time at my Aunt Ruth's summer horse riding camp so being at home all the time was not day in and day out.

Dad also was a potato shipper, buying a crop from other spud growers and shipping them in eight trailer trucks he operated. I would go as a third, four grader and older on trips to the market in Boston, New York, Hartford.

Many other trucks from all over the country were at the same produce markets, and helping unload part of earning my keep if I wanted a fried clam dinner on the way home.

With my own kids, cruises have been an economical way to see lots of islands in many places and reasonably. Did you do the same?

Maine is one neat state but even with the hiking, clean lakes, snowsledding and down to earth local community people, you still teach your kids to explore, see what it out there and find your niche. Maybe when you live somewhere other than Maine, you appreciate this state even more. Maine, 4th lowest crime, four season beauty to come home to full or part time.
