Too Much Chocolate?

Is it Possible to eat too much chocolate?

Well, I intend to find out this Valentine’s Day at the Downtown Chelsea Chocolate Extravaganza. Trinh Pifer, owner of the Garden Mill, got the bright idea of organizing the extravaganza. And what an extravaganza! Over 30 Chelsea businesses and organizations are participating.

Chelsea's chocolate gourmet cafe

Whereas most such chocolate extravaganzas cost an arm and leg to sample the goodies, this one will just cost you any pledge you made to never over-indulge. Really! There will be free -- that’s right, free – tastings at many of the shops, although I am sure they will happily sell you more to take home, if you haven’t yet made yourself sick at the thought of chocolate. But is that possible?

If you don’t mind parting with your money, plenty of chocolate-themed merchandise will be on sale. Additionally there will be door prizes and various activities from 12 to 5 pm. All of the participating stores will have brochures available that direct you to the events.

But if all you want is chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, you will find truffles galore, organic chocolate, a chocolate fountain, chocolate baked goods, hot chocolate beverages, and more!

Chelsea's Gourmet Chocolate

Participating businesses will have a red and chocolate-brown heart on their doors, so you can just follow the trail of hearts, gorging along the way. If you happen upon me with my chocolate glazed face mumbling incoherently, get me into a warm, chocolate-free shop until the sugar shock passes. Too much indeed? No, never.

Heaven on earth :)  But, oh I know all too well the feeling from over indulging in these wonderful delicacies......take plenty of pictures for the rest of us chocolate lovers :)

A direct answer to your question is, "Yes, it is possible to eat too much chocolate. You can get theobromine poisoning, also known as chocolate poisoning." As my marketing guru's wise old grandmother said, "Anything done too excess is bad for you." My advice: Don't try it. Life is too precious. I do hope you were being humorous with your question, and I suspect you were, but one never knows, and one can never be too careful.

Marian,

This sounds like a chocolate lovers extravaganza.  Enjoy.  I am not a chocoholic, but if they ever have an event like this with pretzels...I will be there eating until I fall into a salt induced coma...lol

Have a great day

Make This YOUR Best Year Ever

Leander

Marian, sounds good to me. Yummy, Yummy....

Kathy,Isn't it great that modern medicine has discovered heart healthy properties in dark chocolate? Hip, hip, hooray!

Oh Jim, Let a girl have a little fun! I'll be good. I promise :~)

Hi Leander, (Very cool name!) Ann Arbor was originally settled by German immigrants. There are some awesome German bakeries around here & yes many specialize in old fashioned pretzels! OK. I'll save you one or two!

Hey Missy, There is plenty of chocolate to go around. Meet me there!

Marian, I am so jealous...chocolate is one of my favorite foods! Have fun.

This sounds like a dream that I had as a child! I had a dream that chocolate candy was falling from the sky like raindrops. WOW! We need something like that where I live!

My answer is "NO"! It's not possible to eat too much chocolate. LOL... unless it's dark chocolate. It's my favorite, but my body can't handle caffeine =(

I do like chocolate but only in small amounts (often).

Marian - Just looking at the display make my mouth water! I am sure it will be a success. What a great way for you to support your local businesses!!!!

Marian, Wow, this sounds delicious!  Don't eat too much chocolate (when I do, I get a terrible headache!)

Dark chocolate is supposed to be good for you so you can eat as much as you like without feeling guilty.

Barb, It will be a chocolate lovers marathon!

Dawn, Choc. raindrops- good imagination!

Lisa, I guess nibbling in moderation... as if that's possible HA!

Kathleen, That's best for you anyway. I was reading 1 square of dark choc. is heart healthy. Who knew?

Gwenn, It's nice to suppoet our local biz- and what a great way to do it!!!

Hey Sandy, OK. I'll try to keep it low. (Remember, I said try!)

Gita, You're right. Dark choc IS good for a person.

Marian - I never liked chocolate growing up but it is a big deal now. I don't get it. The big problem for me, however, is the agent in the office next to me keeps a never ending supply of M & M's on her desk and that can be VERY tough on me.

Oh Kent, Just say Noooooo to the m&m's. Life is too short for mediocre chocolate. It's a good thing for me & my waistline that I only indulge in really good chocolate :~)

Mmmmmm, really good chocolate, Godiva comes to mind, and now they have a wonderful sugar free chocolate bar, I have to stay away from the local mall because IT calls to me.  :)  Enjoy your cruising the chocolate sidewalks.

This sounds like a blast!  I heard someone on TV say this morning that dark chocolate is so good for you it should have it's own good group.

Now that is a good question;-)   When I worked for Hyatt Regency, we had an annual Chocolate Fest in the Grand Ballroom...it was pretty amazing.  It was pretty fun watching the kids go crazy over it all!

Hey, Marian.

I see this is your most recent post. Hope all is well with you and yours, and that no one actually got sick from eating too much chocolate. Look forward to seeing you back in the Rain soon.

So, is it possible?  I sure hope not, but I am afraid it is!  In fact I think I might have done just that!  At least the weather is supposed to be nice, so I can go walk it off!!

Marian, good local article and NO, you can never have enough chocolate...especially dark chocolate!

My wife loves dark chocolate, so I guess she'll be just fine. I'd rather have trail mix with cashews :-)

Hi Gail, Godiva, now that just about says it all!

Ann, Own food group for dark chocolate. You mean it doesen't? (lol)

Debra, Choco. fest- I watched a lot of kids go crazy!

Jim, I'm here, baby!

Cheryl, Now that the weather is getting better more walking is in store for me too.

Hey Gena, Thanks! I don't know who invested dark but she ranks god status in my book (lol)!

John, Trail mix w/ cashews. Hmm let me think about that for a minute. Nope. It didn't take 5 seconds!

YUM... I love choc.  now off to ref. just because of you... LOL
