My real estate investing career started 5 years ago when I read the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. It was truly the smack in the face that I needed to get out of my employee mentality and into the entrepreneurial mindset. I dove into reading every real estate and financial book I could get my hands on, going to every online discussion forum like http://www.richdad.com/, http://www.creonline/, and many others. After about 6 months I was able to evaluate and purchase two 2 flat properties in Midland, Michigan conventionally. While not being my best investments, they took me from an employee to a property owner. I utilized a private lender, a property manager, and I cash flowed the properties each month so I didn't do too bad! This is when my real estate investing career truly took off and in August of 2006 I was able to quit my job, as a Business and I/T Consultant with Accenture for 5 years, to run my real estate investment company full time. Since then my business has exploded by investing in metro-Detroit and in the City of Detroit. I've truly embraced the entrepreneurial spirit and have not been afraid to expand into different markets or invest when others are afraid.
