Tax Rebates and all that jazz…….

Tax Rebates and all that jazz…….

So with this rebate what will it accomplish? 1200.00 for a couple. 600 for an individual. Now I’m not saying not to be grateful for it but how long in this economy will that money last. For some that’s a house payment. Others a car payment. Will this really stimulate the economy? In my opinion no. Is this a move by the Bush Presidency to let us know that they value us? What about rising oil prices? What about people losing their jobs and homes on a daily basis. We’ve been held hostage to these and other things for so long. My opinion is with everything that has happened in the last month or so capping it with the sub prime mess this will help only for a moment.

This is just a band aid on a much bigger problem. Do I have the answer? Of course not. Just an observation from where I’m sitting. The state of Michigan’s population and economy has steadily declined over the past few years. I don’t know the numbers but in speaking to people on the street at times I hear of people leaving to find a better place to work, live and support their family.

Have we hit the bottom yet? I don’t think so. But we don’t need to slide any more. This election is going to be one of the most important in this country in decades. Whoever gets elected has their work cut out for them. They will have to hit the ground running to turn this country back into the great nation it truly is.

I'm pretty leery of just how much it's going to help.  Like a lot of people, I'm looking around my house and deciding I have too much stuff and don't need any more.  I don't think my tax rebate will go for stuff.  Well, maybe half of a MacBook Air!

Hi Robert -- you know it's an interesting dilemma Congress and the President have.  If they do nothing...if they do nothing...if they do nothing, then nothing, then nothing, then nothing has changed.  By doing something, something changes.  Now wasn't that profound insight.  I should run for office.  Dr. John and I will probably give our rebates to Teen Challenge!

All I can say is anyone that oesn't know what to do with their rebates I'll be glad to give you my address

This will offer temporay relief only.  Unless you plant a seed.  Then you will be blessed.

Patricia. most everyone in this country is leery of BIG government. The institution of government was at one time FOR the people. Look whare it's gotten us.

Terry. It's like putting a big wad of bubble gum on a leaky dam. Too many band aids. we need concrete solutions.

Hugh. There's a man after my heart..

Kevin. Interesting point. Reaping and sowing. If we look at it from that perspective i see why they're only getting so little.

Hello Robert:  This comment has nothing to do with this post except I noticed (and Lola mentioned) that you are now with Flexit Realty.  Congratulations on the move.  When did this happen?

I'm with Hugh....lol....I have a kid in college.

I look back at the hurricanes....rita and katrina. We had allllll of these people here in Houston that got those debit cards and what did they do with them? TONS of them wasted the money rather than use it to get back on their feet. It did nothing to fix the problem of their homelessness.

The govmt likes to throw money at us to make us feel better and it does till the money is spent and we are back where we started in the same mess.

It will take more than rebate checks to stimulate this economy. It will take major reform.

ED. Last week as a matter of fact.

Cheryl. Just enough for gas money and back to business as usual.

Cheri. Major reform may be the answer. But when and how and most of all the next Pres has to make this a big issue. We will see.

I agree that the tax rebate isn't going to help the economy.  It's just going to put our country deeper in debt!  President Bush is good at that.
