Tips to help prevent ID Theft:
In looking on the net I came across an article that has some benefit to help you not to become a victim of identity theft. As a person who (in 2006) was victimized by this crime any and anything I see to prevent it I read up on just to try and prevent it from happening again. You have to be so careful wherever you go because there are people (in today’s economy) that are very desperate and will go to great lengths to survive.
Somehow (and I still don’t know how it happened) someone got my SSN and opened accounts in Atlanta, Georgia. There was an account opened for gas, electric and a cellular phone. On my credit report there was 2 different birthdays. Would that not have been the first clue? I was in the process of getting one of my properties refinanced and was alerted by my lender of the discrepancy. After the initial shock I had to contact the companies. They all requested fraud packages to prove I was not that person. The file grew thick by the day. I had to collect so much information. It took 3 months and countless hours of frustration getting this problem resolved. I had to get a copy of the police report to add with the file but the problem was it was a report that was filed in Atlanta and here I was in Grand Rapids.
One of my previous managers (here in Grand Rapids) had a relative who lived there and they were kind enough to go downtown and get a copy for me. Yes it seems like everything went smooth but I can honestly say it was a pain in the neck because here I was running around fixing a problem I didn’t create.
So as you read the article (copy and paste into a browser) there is a wealth of information you will get from it. Always be careful wherever you are.

Robert~ That must have really been a hassel! I am so sorry that happened to you.
Robert, sad that people would even stoop to that level, how the world has changed.
Vickie. It was a royal pain in the rear. But a learning experience also.
Duane. Changed for the worse in my estimation.
Robert, I agree with this economy, desperate people, do desperate things.
Duane. How true. When your back is against the wall and you're losing everything sometimes you resort to this.
Robert, I think you and Duane are on to something. Desperate times do sometimes become a breeding time for desperate behaviors. This really is some great information. Other than a wallet, checkbook, and credit card number, we have been fortunate.
