DEQ hearing draws more than 200 attend Harsens Island meeting The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has until Aug. 9 to make a decision about a permit request to build a bridge from mainland Clay Township to Harsens Island. Officials from the DEQ listened to comments from area residents at a public hearing last week. The Detroit International Bridge Co. wants to build a 1,950-foot drawbridge from a site off Pointe Tremble Road in Clay Township to a property on the island adjacent to a marina and a house east of the Champion's Auto Ferry landing.
