Farmers Market in Gladwin starting May 21, 2011

farmers market

The market will be located in the same place as it was last summer. Vendors will set up and sell their wares behind the Historical Village across State Street from Country Corner Bulk Foods and the Eagles Club.

The market will be open every Saturday starting on May 21 and going through Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. In addition, the market will be open every Wednesday in August from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

“Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food” is a movement across the country that encourages consumers to buy locally produced food items and interact with the people that grow and raise the food we eat.

In addition to more dates, the farmers market will also feature special events. There will be a Children’s Day as well as a Seniors’ Day. Non-profit organizations will be on hand for those events and throughout the summer with information on the services they provide. The Farmers Market is also working to be able to accept Project Fresh certificates and should be able to do so by the middle of the summer.

Farmers, gardeners, bakers and anyone interested in being a vendor at the Farmers Market this summer should call Becky Gleason for information. Non-profit organizations who would like to increase community awareness of their organization by setting up at the Farmers Market should also contact Becky. Becky Gleason can be reached at 989-426-4133.

This summer promises to be fresh and fun. Whether you are a vendor or just hungry, make plans to visit the Gladwin Farmers Market Saturday mornings this summer to enjoy the weather, some time with your family and the offerings of your local farmers and growers.
