Friday is a good day to have some fun by looking back on some of the fun things we've done so far this winter.
This first photo was taken mid-morning following a super-cold night. We had some fog the night before, so the fog froze to the trees. I believe it's called "hoar frost". The whole area was covered in this frost - it was beautiful! In Michigan, it's not often that we get a clear, blue sky in the winter, before the lakes freeze over. That's what made this particular morning even more beautiful.
This next photo is from the same morning, before the sun burned through the low clouds. This decorative grass sits just off the edge of my back-yard deck.
This next photo was taken on the morning following a big snowstorm (January 2, 2008), and shows a scene looking up my neighbor's driveway. The snow started out really heavy and wet, then lightened up into powdery snow. There was no wind in the morning, so the snow stuck to all the trees for a while. Again, it's unusual to have such a blue sky following a winter storm, as the lakes had yet to freeze over.
The one really good thing about a heavy, wet snow is that it's great for packing and making things. So, we made a sledslide in our front yard, complete with iced-down walls (to keep the sled on course) and a nice jump in the road-side ditch. Sadly, though, the sledslide lasted only a few days, as temps climbed into the 50s and the whole thing melted! Oh, well! It was a lot of fun for the kids, while it lasted!
Of course, you couldn't have a winter photo without a snowman!
Keep smiling!

Your pictures are beautiful, BUT is is just a reminder to me as to why I left central New York for sunny Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Linda,
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, Michigan is a beautiful state, but it sure would be nice to be able to play golf in January in Myrtle Beach!
Vance, beautiful photo's, thanks for sharing. I do like to see when the frost blankets the trees, then the sunlight hit's them and they glow.
Duane,
Since we all use our digital cameras for pictures of the homes we market, we all need to remember to capture some of the beauty going on around us. Thanks for noticing!
Vance, I agree 110% if we overlook the beauty around us it would be a shame. Have a great weekend, Duane
Likewise!
Vance great photos. it is so cold, I've got my jammies on. Do you have an account on flickr? You should join there and post photos. Great social site as well as for photos.
Vance, I think I'm ready for some palm tree shots! LOL. Bbuuuurrrrrrr
