First of all My name is Jules Yates (Associate Broker of Exit Realty Paramount in Traverse City, Michigan) ) and I can help you sell your property or negotiate a short sale for you anywhere in northern Michigan. For those of you (non Realtors) out there who are concerned about loosing your home once a Sheriff's sale takes place (in Michigan anyway), don't despair. You more than likely can stay put for up to 6 months.
I had a call from a gentleman today who was concerned that he had to try and negotiate a short sale in the next 7 days since the sheriff's sale was next Friday. He knew about the 6 month redemption but was concerned since the home was a summer place and was unoccupied. I explained to him that even though it was technically vacant the lender still had to get a court to deem the property vacant or abandoned.
That said we are investigating further to see if that is actually the case but it has been my understanding that offering a property for sale can prevent a property from being considered abandoned. I will follow up on this but if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
