Prospecting for Buyers and Sellers by Social Networking

I've been getting into social networking, mainly Facebook. I'm seeing it take on a life of its own. First, I started out be connecting with friends and family. Then, past real estate clients. Next thing I know, one of past real estate clients from Great Britain contacting me on Facebook and said they wanted to buy a condo in Scio Village Ann Arbor because the prices were so low, it made sence to buy one instead of renting a storage unit for thier furniture. Plus, they have a place to stay when they come to Ann Arbor. It occurred to me that social networking is just another way stay in touch with the people you meet. More importantly, it give all the people you meet an insight to your personality and really helps develop your relationship with them. That's what the real estate business is really all about... building relationships. Looking for comments and advice.

You are absolutely correct about social networking.  I've heard that Twitter is a great social networking application for business-building as well.

Yes, I know a number of agents are using twitter. Most people just forward thier Twitter to Facebook. So, the question is why? The weak point of 33 Touch system was the lack of personal touches. My interaction on Facebook is starting to re-establish my real estate clients with me personally. That's what I like. I was thinking about adding it to all my mailings "see me on Facebook". Any thoughts??

Nice post James!  Do what is right for you.  It certainly wouldn't cost anything to put "see me on Facebook" so why not?  Great idea.

I use both, Twitter is more fun and business links. FaceBook is great for keeping up with past clients, old friends. Twitter is addicting for me, FB is not.

Social Networking is the future, it is contantley changing.

I think the link to FB is a great idea, why not?

How do you Tweet to FB?? I've seen that in the Status Update on FB... tinyurl..... What is the advantage of tweeting to FB? Is there any or is it just easier and more familiar??

I'm still in the process of trying to incorporate my long existing FB account into my business.  The problem that I've seen is that anyone can tag a photo of you and put a caption on it.  Sure, you can take it off, but it could do damage in the short term.

Example:  Someone tagged a photo of you in college at a party acting crazy and put a not so flattering caption on it.............you are currently a youth counselor at a local church.

My point is this:  It can be very beneficial to use Facebook, but it requires constant supervision.
