i own four Whirlpool appliances. Why? Because they were the best I could afford at the time. All bought within the same month and delivered. When the refrigerator quite working, I called the best techinican, and he told me then....four years ago....that I would have to buy another appliance if the condenser went out again because all the parts in the U.S. were no longer available. Oh, great.
Then, Whirlpool bought Maytag.
Whirlpool Corporation says it is eliminating more than 4,000 jobs following the recent purchase of its rival, Maytag Corporation. This was on May 10, 2010.
Now Whirlpool is closing its plant in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
If you care about AMERICAN jobs, you need to read the articles in the links.
This is another stellar example of American companies kowtowing to Wall Street.
General Electric is another example. Do you remember when GE was a shining example of American know-how and innovation....well, hello, Mexico, Brazil, Europe and other off shore locations.
When are we going to get America's Congress to wake up? We are the people. And, we don't have jobs.
We can't afford houses. We might be able to buy a car, or a refrigerator, but we can't afford a house to put the car in the garage or a kitchen in which to put the refrigerator.
Quite letting companies shut down plants in America without consequences.....make them pay severance at least to the workers. Entire towns are dying because manufacturing means nothing to these companies....only profits.
This is making me sick. Literally. And, we don't have major plants in my area. But, the whole middle class should be up in arms.
And, then they want to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and labor negotiating?
Come back to constiuents and see what they have to say. This is both Republicans and Democrats.
They have all been in the Beltway far too long.....send them on their merry way with all their "hard-earned" retirement pensions. Another laugh. No one except Congress and the top 2% get that anymore.
