According to Taney County Commissioner Jim Strafuss, there’s a possibility Taney County could receive a multi-million dollar, federal grant to help finance a road to connect Hollister and Kirbyville.
In September of 2009, Taney County submitted a grant application to the U.S. Department of Transportation. This grant targets large construction projects with cost between $20-$300 million. However, Strafuss said the review committee is focusing on smaller projects, in the $20-$30 million range. Taney County applied for $20 million.
In April of 2009, voters decided against a sales tax that would have funded the connecting highway.
Officials hope to receive news on the grant this month.
