St Louis Art Fair 2011

The St Louis Art Fair 2011 was held this past weekend on the streets of Clayton. We always look forward to the Art Fair. The fair is highly esteemed in the art world and it is quite competitive for artists to be accepted for presentation. Over 180 booths represented every conceivable kind of art from photography to painting, metalworks to jewelry, fiber, wood and pottery/ceramics.

The St Louis Art Fair 2011 runs over the second weekend in September. This year's dates were September 9-11. This is a great event for everyone - families included. There was a whole area set up for kid friendly activities - mostly hands on. We saw bottles being filled with colored sand by tiny hands and other arts and crafts. Additionally, there was plenty of music at a variety of amphitheatre venues set up on the streets of Clayton. The venues also provided a backdrop for Japanese drummers and ice sculpture creation. There really was something for everyone.

Of course, what would a fair be without lots of great food. Food vendors were set up along one street together with beverage stands available throughout the fair. Tables for sitting to enjoy the food and music and to rest tired toes were plentiful. Everyone really seemed to have a good time. The weather cooperated as well. Many years, September can be brutally hot in St. Louis. This year, the weather was actually quite pleasant making for an even more enjoyable event.

Our area is very lucky that we are so cultually rich with activities such as the St Louis Art Fair. It is well attended by both artists who are proud to display their wares and the public who is there to admire and purchase. From the crowds we saw on Sunday, the event this year appeared to be a very successful one.
