Missouri Tax Free Weekend

Shop, shop, shop this weekend in Kansas City! August 5-7, 2011 is the Missouri Sales Tax FREE Weekend. Take advantage of the tax free weekend and get a head start on computers, schools supplies and even clothing. You only pay for the cost of the item - state and local sales taxes are waived! But, you only have until midnight on Sunday, August 7, 2011. Remember, the items that you purchase should be for personal use as opposed to being for business use.

The sales tax exemption is limited to:

  • Clothing - any article having a taxable value of $100 or less (accessories are not included)
  • School supplies - not to exceed $50 per purchase (any item normally used by students in a standard classroom for educational purposes
  • Computer software - taxable value of $350 or less
  • Personal computers - not to exceed $3,500 (laptop, desktop and components and accessories)
  • Computer peripheral devices - not to exceed $3,500

Minimum savings are 4.225% (state taxes), and depending on participating cities, a consumer can save a total of up to 8 or 9 %. That could literally add up to hundreds of dollars that you can save!
