Hello? Did you just say HELLO?

Hello? Did you just say HELLO?

Yesterday I was scheduling some property to show. As I was going through the list I come to one homeReally, Did I just hear you say HELLO? that I had to call somewhere other than the office or a showing service. It happened to be the listing agents' home phone number. Now let me say, I am not opposed to calling your home, I am not against calling you at the gym while you are working out, shucks I am not even against calling you on the golf course or at a watering hole. All I ask is a couple of common courtesies like:

  1. Answering the phone or
  2. Call me back when I leave a message and
  3. Identify yourself and the company you work for.

Could it be that your listing has been on the market for over a year now simply because you are not returning your scheduling calls? If you are a part-time agent and you have your spouse or significant other fielding your calls remind them of the importance of answering the phone correctly as well as returning calls.

Hello is nice if you know who it is on the other end of the line but when you don't know the caller it would be nice to identify yourself and the company you work for.

In not returning my call, and yes I did leave my return number two times in my message, I could've chosen to just forget about your listing and not show it.

Remember, you are in business for yourself and businesses do not answer the phone with HELLO...
