It's time for the 13-year Cicadas to go!
St. Louis has been suffering from the emergence of the 13-year Cicadas for the past 2 weeks. If you are in St. Louis, you can’t miss their presence. The cicada makes a very distinctive, very high-decibel sound. Luckily, after emerging from the ground after 13 years, they don’t stay around for long. They are extremely annoying and you find them everywhere. They are flying through the air, they are flying into you, they are clinging to buildings and trees or laying dead in a heap on the ground. They don’t sting or hurt humans. In truth, they are a good source of protein for other insects, snakes and birds. A small ice cream shop in a nearby town even made them into ice cream which was quite popular (ick!)
More than anything, they have been annoying. Besides hitting people while in flight, they hit cars, they hit windshields, and get stuck in your windshield wipers. They are a rich source of protein and are good for animals but in small quantities. Some dogs have been getting ill for eating too many of them.

The entomologists keep promising the cicadas are only here for a few weeks. I think St. Louis is cicada weary and we are all ready for them to be gone. Szzzz……………
