Wesson Water-It's the Best!

Wesson Water-It's the Best!

The water in Wesson, Mississippi, has officially been declared the state's best-tasting drinking water. The Mississippi Rural Water Association recently held a contest in its "Quality on Tap!" campaign to determine the best rural water in the state. Samples of water were brought from all around the state and were judged on clarity, color, and taste. Second place in Mississippi went to Northeast Itawamba Water Association in Golden, MS, and third place went to Central Water Association in Philadelphia, MS.

Winners of the competition will compete in a national contest April 20-22 in Washington, D.C. The event is part of the Rural Water Rally, an annual event for state affiliates of the National Rural Water Association.

Mississippi Rural Water Association Executive Director Kirby Mayfield said the state has a good chance of winning the national taste test because of the high quality of Wesson's water.

Wesson Mayor Alton Show said he is proud of this honor, especially in light of a brief water contamination in the late 1980's. Public Works Director Mark Brown praised not only the public works team, but also the police who patrol the water treatment plant and towers, the fire department who routinely flush the plugs and get rid of any sediment, and the city clerks who respond quickly to any calls of potential water problems. In addition, the city government sees to it that Brown attends classes and keeps his certification current.

Shaw added that instead of paying for commercially bottled water, Wesson residents can now save that money and proudly drink their own water-the best in the state!
