Our community is in the news-Again!! This year Money Magazine's best place to live focused on small town America. They actually looked at towns between 7,500 and 50,000 in population. The editors decided that it was time to take a look at communities that offer the best combination of economic opprtunity, good schools, safe streets, things to do and a real sense of community.
Two towns in the Triangle made this year's list: Apex, NC and Holly Springs, NC. I'm not surprised that these towns made the list. Both towns have all of the qualities that Money Magazine looked at when evaluating the list. Here are some more details regarding Apex, NC and Holly Springs, NC.
14. Apex, N.C.
Population: 26,300
Median home price (2006): $226,942
Average property taxes (2006): $1,940
Most residents find the quaint downtown area very appealing. The city is even restoring the buildings downtown and adding a new theatre. Big pluses on Apex include housing affordability and low taxes. About the only drawback comes with a longer commute time into RTP with all of the rapid growth in the area.
More detailed data from Money Magazine on Apex, NC can be found here. I've written an article on Apex, NC Real Estate Market Conditions that can be found here.
22. Holly Springs, N.C.
Population: 11,800
Median home price (2006): $242,785
Average property taxes (2006): $1,741
Despite a surge of residents, Holly Springs hasn't experienced many of the growing pains of its neighbors. Rather, the city is coping and planning ahead - while trying to maintain its southern charms. One high school opened up in 2004 and another is on the way. Meanwhile, thanks to its proximity to the Research Triangle, Holly Springs is also attracting more business. Last year, drugmaker Novartis announced plans for a manufacturing plant that will add 350 jobs.

I remember when Apex population was just over the 11,000 mark. It amazes me our growth and I am glad to see it everywhere for us.
Susan - We've com a long way haven't we? I know Franklin County and N. Raleigh have too! Thanks for stopping by.
