The excellence in education that has become Wake County's standard continues. Matt Wight, principal of Apex High School, has been selected as the state's North Central Region Principal of the Year by the NC Department of Public Instruction,
As a real estate professional and former Wake County teacher when my clients are shopping for homes often their number one concern is a good school district. Whether they have elementary age or middle school age children I encourage them to start looking in a great high school district. The theory is that elementary and middle schools that strive for excellence eventually fill the high schools and the high school scores will reflect their efforts. High school test scores tend to be lower. Why? One thoery...high schools are full of teenagers. Teen have discovered that the tests they are taking do not deirectly reflect them. So what we've learned here is that if you want a great school district start your housing search with the high school.
This is the third year in a row that the Wake County Principal of the Year went on to be named the state's North Central Region Principal of the Year. Last year, Cathy Moore, earned the honors. Moore was principal of Sanderson High. She now serves as a WCPSS Area Superintendent. In 2007, Jamee Lynch who was principal of Hodge Road Elementary, earned the honor. Lynch is now principal of Sanford Creek Elementary.
My kids are at Green Hope High School in Cary, NC. It is consistantly one of the top ranked high schools in the district with 92.8% of its student performing at or above gade level.
