Transylvania County's Sesquicentennial Celebration!

Transylvania County, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, is celebrating it's "Weaving a Tapestry of Community" Sesquicentennial this year. Summertime here in the Brevard area has always been a great time for fairs, festivals and celebrations, but to mark this ocassion, many special events have been added. As promised, here is an update to events surrounding Transylvania County's 150th birthday! On Saturday, June 18th there will be a demonstration by area master gardners at the newly renovated Gardens of Silvermon focusing on Herb Gardening. This workshop will be lead by Gail Comer, a Transylvania County Master Gardner since 2003, a member of the National Herb Society, and has been an herb gardner for many years. Gail will be sharing a variety of culinary uses for herbs as well as tips for growing thriving plants. This is the second of three events of the "Kitchen Gardening Past and Present" series this year. The purpose of these workshops is to help develop knowlege about growing and utilizing the foods produced in your garden and to provide information on the many facets of gardening. The workshop will run from 10am until noon. Admission is free and open to the public. Signup for this event begins at 9:30 am and you are encouraged to arrive early for the best available seating.
