A special outing with my dog Maggie

Now that I've moved back to Cary I have no excuse for not bringing my dog to the doggie park in Cary.  An even greater reason -Note Maggies Reading - Don't sweat the small stuff the doggie park is just around the corner about a mile a way.  I can even walk my dog to the park if I want.

I have written about my goofie girl Maggie in previous posts.  Maggie is a 4 year old Labrador Retriever.  I'm convinced that Maggie has a double personality.  On the one hand Maggie is such a happy go lucky dog and always has something to give.  My new neighbor came over and brought her little 9 month old when she came to visit.  My Maggie brought her a ball so that they could "play" together.  On the other hand,  Maggie, like any other devious yellow lab, loves food and loves to contrive how to attain food.  My Maggie is also high strung and needs lots of exercise which is good for Maggie and good for me.

Here's what I always tell my friends about Maggie and keeping her calm.  She's on the 2,4,6 rule.

  • If Maggie gets a 2 mile jog in she's down for a half an hour
  • If Maggie getn in a 4 mile jog she's out for a couple of hours
  • If Maggie gets in a 6 mile jog she's out for the evening

The only alternative is to take Maggie to Doggie Daycare at Town and Country or to the Dog Park in Cary. I have a listing presentation this afternoon so I thought I'd walk to Panera Bread for breakfast with my husband Mauro and then head over to the dog park so that Maggie could chat with her friends.

We had such a wonderful time today.  The weather was a bit windy and chilly but that didn't stop our little social butterfly Maggie.  She met another cute male labrador, a boxer, and some other cute dogs while we were there. I thought I would also include a really cute video of the Cary Dog Park filmed by my friend of her dog Louie's trip to the Cary Dog Park too! Her dog Louie, like Maggie, gets pretty bored until she meets up with her buds.

Cute video.  Not sure about that community water bucket, LOL!  How do the humans at the park not get knocked over like so many bowling pins when the dogs go flying past?!

Hi Jennifer,

The community water bucket says that its for livestock and animals.  I thought that was quite interesting also.  Somehow it seems to work, though.  Dog owners are such nice, social people too!!

Bowling pins?  It's not THAT crowded!!  I think the "birds of a feather flock together" so the doggies don't run over the owners.  They do segregate the little dogs from the big dogs in two different sections.  How about that?

Tracy... Didn't realize you were such a runner...  If you are keeping pace with the dog for 6 miles you must be exhausted......

We have our own dog park at home on our ranch - it looks like that video except when they are eating or sleeping........

Tracy;  Six miles eh?!  Well, I think it would be me that would be out for the evening!  I do see the same sort of pattern with my cocker.  When she gets a work out, she sleeps longer and much better.  The community water bolw - well, if you haven't seen the puppy superbowl on animal planet (which is a hoot) they have a community water bowl for all the frisky pups too.  My dog will not drink from her bowl if the water hasn't been changed from the day before.  Believe me she knows!

Tracy-One of the nice things about dogs is that they make us take time out to enjoy life, and we should enjoy them while they are around. They are really special creatures. Here's a picture of my dog, Awgy.

Awgy

Hi Tracy, AAHH I love Maggie. We were at the beach with our Bella yesterday.. I don't know exactly how far we walked , but she didn't move for about 4 hours after we got home! .....Not even to beg!

Tracy, Maggie should meet Jade and Tundra....png

I love her!!! She needs to meet my white lab Beaufort....except Beaufort would probably get on her nerves and she would never want to play with him.  Poor thing.  We always laugh and say 'nobody likes Beaufort except us'.  Aren't labs just wonderful dogs?

Tracy, I can't wait until my guy is 4-years old.  That's supposed to be the beginning of his calm years.  Any photo I take of Willie is a total blur!  He chews everything in sight, and his energy is boundless!  My goal is to be able to take a photo like the one you took of Miss Maggy!

I just would not make the 6 mile with Maggie. so I better stay in real estate. I know of a lady whom takes other people dogs for their daily walk. I think it is a great need for the animals.

What great comments and great passion from others about their special dogs.  Thank you for all of you comments.  Most folks didn't know that I am a runner and it's interesting when I talk about the 6 mile rule, especially at hilly Umstead. It's just a runners thing.

Tracy, I know what you mean about the amount of exercise to the amount of down time!  Sometimes when we take our dog out for a short walk, that just winds her up more!  Unfortunately, I don't run.  I loved the video at the dog park.  Looks like the dogs were having a lot of fun!

We have a Maggie who loves to run, too! She is a chocolate lab.

Kathy

Dogs Rule!!  Love her!!  We say a tired puppy is a good puppy!!  Thank you for sharing Maggie with us.

I'm such a dog person Audrey and Kathy - I grew up with a dog and as a single parent for many years I only had a kitty cat.  That dog - was a St. Bernard in the Dallas heat.  Needless to say there was a lot of slobber everywhere.  My Maggie is more hyper than Bernie the Bernard but it was really unusual for me getting acclimated with things that dogs do -  like sniffing other dogs out - and doing lots of dog stuff. You know, only things dog lovers know.

I have a yellow lab also. Named Honey. We take her to our pond and play fetch a lot. She will dive in the water for the entire day if you let her. Aren't they a pleasure to watch?

Maggie sounds like a very lucky dog.  I am sure that she loves her trips to the dog park.

Julia,

I'm so happy for you.  You'll have to post a picture too!! I'm so glad you like it here!!  I've just started back and am trying to diet and build my base.  Once I get rolling it's all good.  I'll have to call you when I'm ready for a "real run".

Take care Julia and say hello to Jonathan for me.  I live really close to you guys now and will probably see you around soon.

I love to hear about other people who are in love with their pups! Mine are the light of my life! Both are around 10 years old, and thankfully are healthy and extremely happy. The black one is Traveler, she's my girl and too smart for her own good; and the brown one is Gabriel, my boy who's not so smart, but the sweetest dog ever. Thanks for sharing your Maggie with us!

Hi Dawn,

Welcome back!! I love the pictures of Traveler and Gabriel!! They look really happy and well taken care of.  My dog Maggie has allergies and just blew out her  2nd knee so she just had surgery!! She can't go back to the dog park for 8 weeks!! Poor Maggie.  I hope you're dogs don't have the same "issues" as Maggie.
