The Franklin Press in Macon County Franklin, NC
Read all about it! Franklin NC is a very small town compared to some of the larger cities in NC. Keeping that in mind I wanted to tell you all little bit about our local News Paper here in Franklin, NC. It is Macon County's oldest business established in 1886 created by T.J. Christy of Athens Ga., stayed for a short period and sold out to W.A. Curtis.
It's a very small paper that only comes out twice a week and only has a circulations of about 9,700 in Macon County and they have some home owners that subscribe from out of town, not surprising due to our high rate of second homes here in Franklin, NC. Here are a couple of sections I bet your town don't have.
Rants & Raves. It is so funny! People write in and Rant about anything that makes them mad and Rave about what good in going on. It is a huge hit and of course it is anonymous so it could be your neighbor's complaining about your dog barking or about the gas prices.
Crime Report. Once a week The Franklin Press publishes the crime report stating what officer, what happened and where. If you keep up with it you will know where most of the crimes are and what has happened.
Arrest Records. Yes, if you get in trouble around here, what you did, your name, address, age and where you live will be in The Franklin Press. I see some of the same names all the time in and out of court. They also publish what happened in Court too when you go or if you go to court. Ever wonder what "Called" means? It means that person didn't show up and now you have a warrant out for your arrest.
Community News will tell you who has been sick or where someone is visiting or coming back from. They will ask for prayers for a family if someone has passed away. Some of these communityies are very tight and we are all family in times of need.
