ConAgra Plant in Garner NC

Posted Tuesday Jun 09

We're all anxious as we wait to hear about friends and clients safety at the ConAgra plant.  Tragic incident in Garner around 11:30 AM this morning.

What a day it's been here.  About an hour or so ago Garner got hit with a sever heavy thunderstorm and all search and rescue efforts were put on hold.  But as the storm passes they are sending in NC task hazmat teams in 2 six person teams into the building which is very unstable at this time, in level B suites.

The NC task hazmat team reported they never handled something this large.  They are a trained 210 members team from  Cary, Durham, and Chapel Hill.

Latest information is there have been 32 people taken to 5 area hospitals. There's been a massive response from fire responders, state and local police, even the Red Cross.  But unfortunately the number of people unaccounted for now is back up to 3.

It was reported that an ammonia leak of  34,000 gallons - came from the refrigeration system.

What a tragic accident. Does Conagra have a good safety record?

Prayers go a long way! I'm certainly sending them. This is such a sad, tragic accident.

I saw this on the news earlier today when I was sitting in the doctor's office. My hearts go out to the employees and their families!

thanks for the prayers - as we know they are so important. Especially in such a tragic situation as this was.  Sad news this morning - they found two of the missing people amongst the ruble and fear the third one is dead as well.  So now the healing begins.  Thanks for your support for everyone at ConAgra and the town of Garner.

Seems we just don't know how big or powerful ConAgra is till they can make something like this disappear from the news so quickly.

Oh no Steve, they didn't make it disappear!  quite the contrary.  They have been great setting up all sorts of support (emotionally and financially) for their employees.  It's just a very sad tragedy that happened.

Lee and Pamela....what a disaster for your area. I hope you are getting the answers needed to put this community back in some sort of order. Crazy world, isn't it? One day you're working hard to have a decent life, then poof ~ it's all gone. Peace for all some day!
