The Town of Indian Trail was founded in 1907. The Town’s history can be traced back to the mid to late 1700’s, of which the current location of the Town was part of an Indian trading route from present-day Petersburg, Virginia to the Waxhaw Indian settlement located near the Town’s present location. For many years after initial settlement during the late 1700’s and early to mid 1800’s, the Town was primarily an agricultural settlement. The first post office in the Town was established in 1861. In 1907, the Town of Indian Trail was formally incorporated. Since that time, the Town has gone from a predominantly rural agricultural settlement into a fast-growing Town of approximately 26,000 people, based on recent statistics.
