As part of the federal stimulus package, states will be able to offer discounts on energy efficient appliances. North Caorlina has just proposed that April 22 to 25th be used for that purpose, with a 15% discount on refrigerators, washers, freezers and dishwashers. Average savings are expected to be $100 per purchase, and will range from $50-$250. Any money left over from this event will be used in a second wave of discounts in June, this time on water heaters and heating & air conditioning units, with discounts matching those provided by the customer's utility. So if you're thinking of buying a new fridge or replacing that heat pump, 2010 is likely to provide special incentives to do so.
