Are you content to have lived having only been a REALTOR?

Are you content to know you will have lived and died having been just a REALTOR? This was a tough question posed to me at the Keller Williams Family Reunion (national convention) last year. Gary Keller, the founder of the company asked this question to an audience of about 10,000. He followed that question with “many of you out there are struggling with that right now.”

He was speaking to me. I have a science background and degree in Environmental Science so I always planned to be a scientist. So when my sister came to me and asked me if I wanted to partner with her in the real estate business I assumed it would not be forever. In my mind this was a good chance to make some good money and become financially stable before pursuing my true science career.

Well when he posed that question, I had to ask myself if I would be content dying having only been a REALTOR. After all this is the worst real estate market since the depression, what better time to get out?

I have stirred on that question for almost a year now. After more than five years in the business I am proud to say I know the answer to Gary Keller’s question.

Am I content to have lived and died having only been a REALTOR? The answer is no. I am, however, content to have lived and died as a successful entrepreneur and business owner. I am okay to have owned a business worth owning, and lived a life worth living. Helping people realize their dreams of homeownership and having a place to spend some of life’s most special moments, I can do that.
