Please Be Smart About Your Water Usage!

It's hot here in Charlotte NC, hotter than usual (over 100 degrees today and HUMID!). And it's dry-we haven't had nearly enough rain lately.

So the local governments (that is, Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, and Landis in Cabarrus County) are asking folks to voluntarily get smart with their water usage. It's not required yet-if we would all pitch in and behave, mandatory restrictions wouldn't be necessary.Cut back on water!

And we're not talking about things that are difficult to do! Here are some of the suggestions for cutting back:

  • Water your lawn, if you must, between 9p and 7a. (*If you didn't already know, watering during the day just evaporates off and can actually damage your grass.)
  • Reuse household water for watering plants (especially if you fill a bathtub!).
  • Don't run the water while you're brushing your teeth or shaving-turn it off.
  • Don't leave hoses running while you're washing your car (in fact, if you can afford it, go to a carwash that recycles its water, like AutoBell).

I get pretty mad when I drive by houses that are running sprinklers in the middle of the day! No one is asking you to let your investment in your yard die, we're asking that you water intelligently.

Please think about it. We're fortunate enough to live in a place where clean, safe drinking water is readily available. Don't abuse that privilege.
