BRAC Community Impact Assessment study for North Carolina

Fort Bragg is known as the "Home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces." Fort Bragg is the home for the XVIII Airborne Corps and the 82nd Airborne Division. The US Army Special Operations Command and the US Army Parachute Team (the Golden Knights) also call Fort Bragg home.

Highlights of the Preliminary BRAC Community Impact Assessment study for North Carolina report that by 2013, it is projected that seven counties around the the Ft. Bragg footprint will experience growth as a result of the base realignment campaign.

This growth includes...

Additional active military personnel: 4,647
Civilian support personnel increase: 1,893
Embedded contractor increase: 616
Additional private contractors: 1,000-3,000
Projected construction outlay: $1.5 Billion

Counties in which they expect growth from this include...

Cumberland: 12,000
Hoke: 2,000
Harnett 4,500
Moore: 2,000
Lee: 1,665
Robeson: 900
Richmond: 200

The growth will create 16,600 new jobs and will require around 6,332 additional houses that includes around 6K new students to our area.

Spikes in 2009 and 2013 in school construction expenditures.

This growth will require around $276 million in school construction equivalent to 5 primary schools, 2 middle schools and 2 new high schools if they are moved to the same town.

Rep Etheridge is proposing a 0% construction school financing and impact aid package to the US Congress to help with this among other things.

They expect to break ground on the elaborate new FORSCOMM Headquarters around August 2008. With this 4 star General facility, it is being called the "Little Pentagon" and will be the largest concentration of Generals other than the Pentagon.
