The Milken Institute has come out with their 2008 list of Best Performing Cities in the United States when it comes to economic growth and job creation. The index measures both job creation and salary growth in determining where the hot spots are in the country.
The regions that had the largest growth tended to be the regions that were least impacted by the housing, while (surprise, surprise) the biggest declining regions were in Florida and California, with Las Vegas and Poughkeepsie thrown in.
The question I have is, has economic growth warded off housing price declines in these successful regions, or has the housing drop off devastated the economies of the poor performing regions? Odds are it is the combination of the two. Let me know what you think in the comments.
