Yesterday we hit the first 4 steps of writing great copy. Now lets hit the final 3.
Step 5. Behind Door Number 2
Your message should be weaved in and out of the copy. Almost hidden. People just read, but your copy needs to be captivating. Just make sure that you do not get too caught up reading your own copy, that the message you intended to deliver is totally overlooked.
Step 6. You need to "kill the cat" (sorry kitty lovers)
You need to have your target wonder about something. Make them curious. This is one of the most important elememts in your copy. Do you have something fantastic to tell your target? Leave the right message and they will call you back! Do you have a secret? Do you promise to tell? 1-800-Call NOW!
Step 7. Yes Sir General Sir!
Your writing needs to be authoritative, imposing, and commanding. You probably market both online and offline. This is great but do you forget to tell the reader what they are supposed to do? You have to call for action. You copy has to give a directive to the mind. Without an authoritative voice, your target will wafer and leave.
After following these 7 steps to motivate, stimulate, intoxicate, fascinate, activate, generate, meditate, and captivate, you now need to rewrite. Yes, become a ruthless editor. You need to be sure that your copy communicated directly, clearly, and persuasively. Edit until you want to buy something!
Now go practice, practice, practice writing your copy. Write with a friend, a loved one, or a co-worker. Then test it in a small group and re-write again.
P.S. Yes, there is always a P.S. Why? Because they always read the P.S.!
