First Night In Raleigh North Carolina

On New Year's Eve, there is nothing more famous than the ball drop in Times Square, New York City.

But every year in Raleigh, North Carolina, December 31st has its own celebration that is much less crowded, much more family friendly and considerably warmer than our New York counterparts must endure!

New Year's eve in Raleigh is celebrated with the traditional dropping of the giant acorn. (Raleigh is known as the City of Oaks.)
Nearly 50,000 people attend "First Night" which include concerts, crafts for the kids, comedians, dance, a fabulous parade and so much more.

The Giant Acorn

All the museums are open and this year there will be a "Resolution Tree" where you can write your New Year's resolution on a "leaf" and attach it to the tree. There will also be a Guitar Hero contest where you can test your skills against the reigning national champion, Blake Peebles.
Best of all, there is an early countdown at 7PM so you can bring the kids and let them experience the excitement of New Year's Eve!

The weather is predicted to be cool but clear for the evening. So dress warm, come early and....

Happy New Year!
