According to StarNews Online, the DOT has announced the Brunswick County leg of U.S. 17 will be completed by 2020. The announcement, part of the funding schedule released by the N.C. Department of Transportation on Thursday, details how the project will be completed in three stages starting in 2013. The seven year project was determined to be a major priority over other road projects in North Carolina. While many commuters hope the Wilmington bypass will help ease traffic going to and from Brunswick County, the project was scheduled to span seven years in order to stretch the funding as far as possible. Depending on future available funding, the completion date may be pushed forward to 2017.
