2011 Kids Summer Stock

2011 Kids Summer Stock

An email from my Cheeky Assistant inspired this post. She wrote;

"Do me a favor, write a post about the 2011 Kids Summer Stock Event. I don't have google juice and you do, and I know you don't mind using it for a good cause. So would you?"

Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC logoYOU BET! This is a cause I can get behind -- helping to feed kids who would otherwise go hungry this summer.

Kids Summer Stock is sponsored by the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and this is it's 4th year. Their efforts during this six-week campaign help to feed children in 34 counties in North Carolina. Children who don't have school breakfasts or lunches to keep them from being hungry. For many, those meals are the only ones they get, and when school is out, well, it's a time of need we can't ignore. They need healthy foods to help them grow; and childhood should not be spent worrying about where your next meal will come from, if it even comes.

From their website: More than 270,000 children in our 34 counties are in the free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs at school. For them, summertime doesn't mean a fun filled vacation; for them, no school means no meals.

The Kids Summer Stock Campaign kicks-off this Thursday, June 2 with 2 Social Media Mixers, one in Raleigh NC and one right here in Wilmington NC at Zoe's Kitchen in Mayfaire. Head out and help support the efforts of these terrific Child eating a sandwichpeople as they stock the shelves to feed kids! You can enjoy food, drink and the chance to win prizes, like autographed Hurricances sticks, pucks and even an iPad! Admission is free, though I would suggest you bring a bag or two of non-perishables to help get the party started - but that's just me. I know CA is going to the one in Wilmington and she's already packed up a couple bags - maybe you can best her!

I don't know about you, but I can't stand the thought of a child being hungry. So, how else can we help? Donations and spreading the word! Heck, you can donate $10 just by texting "40MEALS" to 50555. Help the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina stock the shelves for kids this summer -- and make a child smile.

There, is this what you were looking for CA? Hope it helps!
