If you have been watching any news this week you would get the impression that all of North Dakota is under water.

The answer to that question is NO but a whole lot of it has had it's trouble. Minot North Dakota is in good shape and that is for one good reason... prevention! The Souris River (also known as the Mouse River) runs through Minot North Dakota. We had our turn 40 years ago. Thankfully after the disaster 40 years ago the City invested BIG in dikes, dams, and reservoirs. The water certainly got high and had it not been for the excellent planning from years ago mine and many other Minot homes would have been under water. Hats off to the people with the insight to actually use tax dollars to protect it's citizens.

My mother was born in Devil's Lake ND, I have always wanted to see what that looks like. At the time it was a big expanse of farm land covered with snow, in the photos my family took. I am so glad they moved to So. Ca in 1919.

Terry, Minot has been accused of having a "Chapange Government" and in some ways they have been very liberal in their spending but at least everyone would agree that they got this call right.
Mike, Many prayers of thanks have been said in my home and I'm sure many others on this situation.
Sandra, ND is very beautiful during all 4 seasons but one does get tired of the 9 months of winter no matter who you are.
Everyone, Todays newspaper headline was "Souris flow miscalculated" The story says that dispite Canadian officials telling ND that the river would be under control due to the lack of releases from dams up stream the Army Corps of Engineers reported massive problems. Our officials went with the ACE report which was wrong. I say it is better to error on the side of safety but frankly I don't think the ACE has a clue when it comes to river management.
