Open Your Hearts at Christmas

With my children grown and sharing holidays with in-laws and ex spouses, I have spent many holidays alone. It was relaxing, a bubble bath, a glass of wine and liftetime movies became a part of my normal holiday routine. Then one Christmas day a few years ago I decided I wanted to share my holiday with others. I have friends who have no kids or they were away with ex spouses. I was a little nervous about calling them on Christmas Day not knowing if they had plans, but I am so happy that I made those calls. "I was so lonely. I am so glad you called" was what I heard. One agent friend and his sister were so bored there were looking at vacant homes!

We had a nice dinner and watched movies and talked, it was a great Christmas day. Now there is a group of us , some single, some married, that get together for holidays, birthdays, football games or just for fun. None of us ever have to spend another day alone unless it's what we want to do.

This year we all donated our time to the Open Door Mission, helping to make gift bags for those less fortunate, and we will be doing it every year. Our company also goes once a month to help serve food.

If you know of someone who may be spending this Christmas alone, make the call. Open your heart and home to others.

I no longer have to spend my holiday with a bubble bath and lifetime tv. I will, however, keep the glass of wine.
