4th of July and New Hampshire

The signing of the Declaration of Independence, of our Country, was stiil a good 15 years off when colonists from Connecticut were granted a charter on the 4th of July, in 1761 to roughly seven spuare miles of heavily wooded land in the New Hampshire Connecticut River Vally.

Dartmouth College in December of 1769 was chartered, and when the college formally opened in Hanover in the year of 1770 , there was an estimated 20 families lining in the town.
Dartmouth College today

This was among the very first parcels of land obtained by the College upon its founding in 1769, and is the only creation of the center of the campus. After being cleared of pine trees, it initially served as a pasture and later as athleic field for College sporting events. Today, its a central location for rallies, celebrations, and demonstrations, and seves as general, all-purpose recreation area.
Hanover and several other Grafton County towns seceded from New Hampshire and were admitted to the State of Vermont. They all rejoined New Hampshire in 1784.
By the first census in 1790, there were 1,380 folks calling Hanover their home.

Dale, I LOVED the history lesson. There's such a long rich history in North Hampshire. We seem like the kiddo.
Howdy there Marchel

Glad you liked this here post about a part of New Hampsher.
The History in thses parts is just different, than other parts of our Country.
You and your family, have a fun and safe 4th of July!
Hi Dale, "I love me some" history! Here is an interesting New England fact I discovered when (long story short) working on city records for a town in northern Maine. The city records administrator showed us very old records including the city plat or layout from back in the early days and I was surprised to learn that the city was segregated back then. The English population lived on one side of the city and the French population lived on the other side of the city.
Howdy there Shirley

You sure would not think there was segregating going on up in these parts, from learning History in School. I have learned in the time, that I've been here. There was a lot of that going on, in the New England area. Though out the History of the area.
Dale,
These years are rolling around way too fast. We are ready for the fourth here, nice weather too.
Howdy there Steven
