The Woodman Institute Museum studies and lectures on local area history. It opened in 1916, after Annie Woodman left a $100,000 Trust to the City of Dover. The museum originally included the Woodman home, the Hale home, and the 1675 Damm garrison. Recently aquired is the Keefe house, located behind the Woodman home.
The finest display of natural history and geology in the area can be found at the Woodman home.
Some of the more memorable pieces displayed are Indian artifacts from over 3000 years ago, a ten foot polar bear, a two headed snake and a four legged chicken. The saddle used by President Lincoln shortly before his assassination is also at the Woodman home.
Eight hundred period artifacts are displayed at the 1675 Damm Garrison helping visitors experience colonial life in Dover.
The museum is located at 182 Central Ave, Dover.
