Community Caring And Support In Seacoast NH...Served Up Family Style
When 44 year old Heather MacDonald was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 weeks ago, she knew it was time for immediate action. Heather took charge and scheduled a life changing and hopefully, life saving, bilateral mastectomy as part of her treatment.
Heather, a single mother, and resident of Pelham, NH, has been a fixture at Wilbur's Family Dining at 881 Lafayette Road in Hampton, NH for over 10 years. Waiting on all of her loyal patrons with her customary smile and pleasant attitude, Heather juggles her food service career with parenting her 5 year old daughter Jaydn.
It was Rusty Bridle and a few other "regulars"
who first cooked up the idea to have a fundraiser dinner at Wilbur's Family Dining for Heather. Wilbur Forbes, the owner, was inspired by the idea and offered to provide the food, a traditional spaghetti and meatball dinner with garlic toast, and donate all the proceeds from the dinner and the raffles to help Heather with her medical and living expenses. The cost of the dinner was $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
The fundraiser for Heather was Wednesday September 21st from 3:30 - 7:30pm and everyone was welcome. People from all over the area began lining up outside the doors by 3pm and it was non-stop until the end and frequently standing room only. All the folks that Heather had touched with her kind service all these years came in to show their community support and caring. In all, Wilbur's Family Dining served 232 dinners, sold raffle tickets and raised $3,500 for Heather.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." ~ Margaret Mead
I'm pretty sure Heather's world was changed for the better by her loyal friends and customers on this Wednesday evening.
If you would like to make a donation to help Heather win her battle with cancer, please call Wilbur's Family Dining at 603-929-2962, and tell them, "some guy on the internet told me Heather could use my help."
