New Hampshire Seafood Lovers - A Festival Just for YOU!!

Hampton Beach - Lobster Tails and Clam Friters from Rays

Hampton Beach NH has a yearly Seafood Festival, and the first weekend in September each year is everyone's opportunity to fill ourselves full of all kinds of fabulous food from over 50 local area restaurants.  Talk about yummy - every single morsel I indulged in was absolutely scrumptious!

Living in New Hampshire, and New England in general, affords those of us fortunate enough to call this part of the country home countless places to indulge in some of the finest seafood in the world.

And once a year, you get to meander from food booth to food booth dining on every kind of local seafood all in one place!  How cool is that?!?!?!?

Welcome to Hampton Beach NH
I must admit, in all the years I've lived here in Portsmouth NH, I have never been down to the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival until this year.  And now I know what I've been missing all these years!

This is the 19th Annual Seafood Festival, and it just keeps getting better and better from what I can heaing.  It's so good and such a great family event that it has been named "One of the Top 100 Events in America" for a number of years.  And now that I've been myself, I can see why the festival continues to receive that recognition!

I went on opening day with good friends Jay and Monika McGillicuddy and another great friend of ours, and we had a great time trying as much seafood as we could.  Some of what we sampled, and loved, were lobster rolls, fried clams, sauteed lobster tails on a stick, grilled shrimp on a stick, grilled swordfish on a stick, fried onion rings, coconut shrimp, steamed lobster and corn-on-the-cob, chowder, ice cream, and some beverages of course.   The really great thing about this festival is that you can dine on all this great seafood at less than half the price you'd have to pay if you ate in the restaurants that have the food booths.  It doesn't get any better than that, that's for sure!

In addition to the yummiest seafood you can imagine, there's also a variety of bands playing throughout the weekend, arts and crafts booths, and fireworks, as well as great sidewalk sales in front of all the shops along the Hampton Beach Boardwalk area.

Not a seafood lover?  Not to worry, you can also find chicken, hot dogs, chinese food, ribs, and other food not from the sea.  That all looked delicious as well.

For those of us who live here in the NH Seacoast area, we get all kinds of great fun events like this to take part in all year long.  Just one of the many perks and benefits of calling this great area HOME!!

Ann,

You must have read my mind...we had fish last night...best brain food and I can really use some additional help:)

Ann - I love the Seafood Festival and we try to get there every year. Unfortunately we did not go this year. I was amazed to see our Hampton Beach included in with beaches in CA and Hawaii as the cleanest - kudoos to those who work so hard in the Hampton Beach district.

Ann the fact that you have never gone to the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival is very surprising to me. This sounds like a great event! I may have to check it out next year. I have not been to Hampton Beach in years.

That sounds sooo yummy!  I have New England roots and one of the things I miss is the seaside culture.  It's been way too long since I've had lobstah!

Ann--This looks like it is a fun place to spend the day! Yum!

You are making me hungry!   I love fresh seafood, but since I live in land locked Atlanta I miss it an awful lot.

Ann, now this is what I call a FESTIVAL! MY kind of food for sure. I would love to jump on a plane and go with you next time. I've never had lobster rolls but willing and able to try them. You are the best at showcasing the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival. You have me sold. YUM

Ann I want some more Lobster and chowder!  It was a fun afternoon and evening by the campfire.

Ann, OH YES this is my kind of event, they would have to lay me on my side and roll me out of there ...... LOL

Neal - you made me chuckle with that comment about needing more help! Get on up here and get some good old New England seafood - the best there is!

Judy - that was really cool about Hampton Beach being rated that high!  We know how great it is, nice to see that the rest of the world can now see just how special this area really is.  I really enjoyed going to the Seafood Festival, and I'll be going each year from now on, now that I've finally been!

Bill - can you believe it?  I've lived here all these years and just never went before.  We should have an Active Rain get together there next year - that could be a lot of fun with a group of us meeting up there.

Suzanne - you should try to come up next year for this festival.  I was surprised at how low the prices were and everything I ate was just yummy, especially the lobster tails and lobster rolls.

Thanks for the comments!
Ann

Teri - it was a wonderful day and we capped it off by spending a few hours around the campfire at Jay and Monika's campsite - just a great day and night all around!

Jim - have you eaten yet?  Our seafood up here is the best, but you've got a lot of southern food down there that I just love and never get up here......

Gena - if you want to come join us, plan on the first (or second?) weekend in September for all this yummy seafood and fun.  It was yummy food for sure, and awesome company!

Monika - every time I think of that day, I drool over the food we ate.  It was all so good, I am so looking forward to next year already.  And to end it around your campfire was just the best way to end that day.  It was a lot of fun!

George - they about had to roll us out of there, with all the food our other friend who was with us and I ate!  You're close enough to drive up here next year for this - we could dub it our AR New England Seafood Celebration.  How does that sound?

Thanks for the comments!
Ann

Ann, you have a date, make sure you remind me when it gets close :)

George - cool, and you're on!  First weekend in September, I beileve.  Between Jay & Monika and me, we should be able to give you plenty of notice---- I hope!!

;-)

Ann-All I can say is yum...yum...yummy!  I swear one day I'll be there..I just love your area!

Hi Midori - Yummy is right!!  I hope that 'one day' comes sometime soon!  I'd love to show you around the great area I call home.....

Ann- it looks marvelous.  Been a very long time since I was up north.

Thanks again for your prayers for us.

Hi Tammy - you're very welcome, and I hope recovery is going just fine.

Our seafood up here is THE best - come on up for a visit and indulge like we do!
Ann

nothing better then the changing of the leaves in New Hampshire and eating seafood by the water, very nice. Enjoy!!

Sounds like fun!  I can't be there so can you send me a couple of lobsters anyway?

I don't know why I remember this, but when I went to my first seafood festival, I was newly pregnant, and seafood was off limits.  Well, I was allowed to eat limited quanties but NO SHELLFISH!  No lobster for me is like no honey for Pooh Bear.  I recall drooling all day.
