I have recently been asked to join an Architectural Review Board for a local development slope side at Loon mountain resort in Lincoln New Hampshire.

Our company designs and builds lake side and mountain homes that have a decidedly rustic flair. Not primitive, but rustic in looks and organic material whenever possible.

The corner stone of a resorts homogeneous feel is that the homes should posses a general theme. We are not looking for everything to match, in fact diversity adds to the uniqueness of the homes.

As a group we really are only concerned with the exterior appearance of the homes. As a community we would like to encourage public spaces, porches , decks and patios where your neighbors can feel welcome to visit or wave on their walk.
The basic elements that give the ski homes Adirondack flair are the liberal use of Stone, a variety of textures in the application of siding, twig & Bark work, roofs, windows and doors. Lastly the embellishments in the choice of lighting, wrought iron and planting material are all key to the finished (or not so finished look) we hope to capture.
Birch bark and beams are a nice touch.
These are not supposed to look like suburban homes you see everyday, we have a strict maximum square foot requirement for “lawns”, a very defined area of disturbance allowing for minimum loss of natural vegetation, and a minimum and maximum size home that can be constructed on these ski to your door home sites.
skiers bridge to your home with snow making and grooming on the private trail that lead back to your door.
These are some of the photos of approved homes, and use of materials you are going to see in the South Peak Resort at Loon Mt.

Many of these Adirondack Style homes blend post and beam with huge stone fireplaces, which brings the organic building materials inside as well as outside.

Steve the homes look fantastic. I am a fan of the "lodge" look with a lot of wood.
Bill... Happy to share more photos with you, when your ready to build your next rustic camp-home.
take a look at our construction companies site for some ideas. www.cargillconstruction.com
I love the look of these homes. It feels like a lodge. Very modern with a welcoming feel of the outdoors and a classic hospitality ambiance.
Steve those houses are amazing, I love the look. I would love to own one someday.
Steve - Congratulations on your appointment. An appreciator of art and architecture can help establish guidelines that benefits everyone. Cool - use of twigs?
Dinah...The Northern new york lakes region might have started the trend but the campy retreat is a dream for all of us.
George , OK. you and Bill, I'll save a slope side spots for the two of you.
Wendy...these are very cool rustic designs, of course these have central A/C, and all the bells and whistles... so not roughing it by any stretch of the imagination.
Good luck with your new appointment. It sounds like the work will be well worth it!
Those homes are gorgeous! Just what i would have pictured! I was on an ARC one time and they either loved me or hated me! Good luck!
Laura...We Do love our rustic development, I should have also commented the use of Logs both inside and out are one of my favorite applications. Here is a pix of an inside finish we did for a custom home.
Leesa... I'm with you it's hard to hold back a strong opinion when it strikes you, but the process is meant to illicit individual custom designs...that have an overall similar feel from the outside.

Hey Steve, I love this style of home--they are just beautiful! To me, the use of all the stone and wood just makes the home so cozy.
Have a prosperous week!

Anne...I know you have taken a ski trip or two, and there is something about a rustic camp when the snow is coming down, the added benefit with these is they have wine cellars, hot tubs and media rooms..
