Lighthouse Lover's Cruise - Portsmouth NH

Lighthouse Beacon

Love lighthouses? Love being at sea? Have we got a great fun adventure coming up for those who love lighthouses!!

National Lighthouse Day
, August 7th, is being marked here in Portsmouth New Hampshire by daytime sightseeing cruises starting on August 1st and going through August 7th. How cool is that??

We have a local cruise company here in Portsmouth, the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company, that offers cruises all summer long. To mark National Lighthouse Day this year, they're teaming up with Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses to raise money for the American Lighthouse Foundation.

Lighthouse at White Island - Isles of Shoals New Hampshire

You'll get to cruise around THREE Portsmouth Harbor area lighthouses. How fun that's going to be - THREE of our lighthouses here in Portsmouth New Hampshire are going to be part of this fun way to mark National Lighthouse Day this year!!

The 3 lighthouses you'll see on these cruises are Whaleback Lighthouse, Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, and White Island Lighthouse. In addition to seeing these wonderful historical lighthouses, you'll get to spend several hours at sea, and enjoy the views of our great coastline. What a great treat this will be!

White Island Lighthouse is located out at the Isles of Shoals, a cluster of islands several miles off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine. Whaleback is actually located in Kittery Maine.

Whaleback Lighthouse is the lighthouse I wrote about that the US Coast Guard is getting rid of. What a really fun place that could be to own!

Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse - New Castle NH

Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, also known as New Castle Lighthouse, is actually in New Castle NH. Portsmouth Harbor Light played a big role in the early Colonial days, and has gone through many transformations over time.

Ann - I would so love to go on one of these tours. There is something quite beautiful and serene about lighthouses. I'm not sure if it's true, I have never been in one. Someday...........

Hi Paula - They really are beautiful and serene - it's all true!  This cruise ship company has some really fun cruises, and being able to see these lighthouses from sea is really pretty special.

Ann

Ann,,,, sounds like a great time. I liked the previous blog that you did on the different lighthouses. Keep us posted on how this turns out.  thanks

Hi Ann,

National lighthouse day, that's a new one of me. But it sure looks like this could be a great time to enjoy the outdoors and see some special landmarks in your area.

Hi Jeff - thanks for your comments!  I know these lighthouse cruises will be a great time for all who take part.  The ship that's putting them on is alot of fun, it has 3 levels, and lots of great viewing areas.

Thanks,
Ann

Hi Lynda - we've got a number of lighthouses here in my area, so we do pay attention to those kinds of commemorative dates.  This really is a great way to see these lighthouses for those who don't have their own boats, and they'll also get to see the coastline and other landmarks as well on these cruises.

Thanks for reading and for your comments!

My mother-in-law would absolutely love this - she is a lighthouse nut.

Anything to do with the ocean is alright by me. We just love the coast. Portsmouth is another great place to live and /or visit.

Ann...

I guess this post personifies the term "sticky" :)

Nice work :)

TLW...ROAR!

Christina - Any change your mother-in-law is in New England?? Lighthouses do have a certain mystique to them, and seem to enchant many of us.

Jay - Portsmouth is just that - a great place to live and to visit.  Every time I go away somewhere, I really love coming back home to Portsmouth!

TLW - 'sticky'?  Guess I did something good and I didn't even realize it!  Thank YOU!!!

Ann - she's not.  She's from OK and lives in CA.  Just loves light houses though!  We had the honor of giving FIL and MIL a trip to NY/Maine a few years ago.  They stayed in a B&B in Kennebunkport and very much enjoyed themselves.

That sounds so neat!  I love light houses and often take pictures of them when we visit Maine.

Ann How I love your articles! When me and my husband left New Hampshire I made sure I snapped up all the light house pictures, and walked that awesome Sea Brook beach one last time. It truly is an amazing place, and friends made their were to be friends for life

Ann, I so love lighthouses. Now I'm homesick for New Engand and the lighthouses of Cape Cod.

Beautiful post! Is that a Real Estate Show tour?

Ginger

Christina - Kennebunkport is a beautiful little town, lots of gorgeous homes and buildings, wonderful little shops and restaurants.  Very pretty!

Hey Monika - Maine does have some great lighthouses, the most famous being Nubble Lighthouse I would guess.  We live in a great location for loving lighthouses, don't we?

Diane - thank you SO MUCH for that very nice comment!  Seabrook Beach is pretty - soft light sand.  If you come back here for a visit, let me know and we can catch up.  Thanks for reading!

Ginger - I have a cure for that homesickness - come for a visit!!  The Community Tour I use is not a RealEstate Show tour, however I use those tours on some of my other posts.  My Community Tour is a tour from angiestours.com - Charles does a beautiful job on them.

I have never been in a lighthouse and this sounds so interesting!  You are definitely the expert for Portsmouth NH!

Hi Renee - thanks!  Lighthouses are so cool, and they seem to evoke romantic and oftentimes sentimental emotions for a lot of people.  We're lucky here in Portsmouth in that we have several all right here, and a number of others just a very short drive away.
