If you've ever been to Portsmouth New Hampshire, you already know that we have one of the most charming downtown areas you could ever want to find. Loads of awesome shops, beautiful art gallerys of all kinds, wonderful cafes and coffee shops, and a myriad of delicious dining experiences in the huge variety of restaurants.
Portsmouth NH had been dubbed, "The Restaurant Capital of the Eastern Seaboard", due to the high number of restaurants per capita.
Getting back to the shopping, for all you shoppers - Friday nights in downtown Portsmouth now offers a unique shopping experience, "Portsmouth Lights on Friday Nights". Every Friday night, many of the shops downtown will be open later than usual, until 9pm. This is a new pilot program that the Downtown Business Association has worked hard on to kick off.
At the request of many of Portsmouth's residents and visitors, a wonderful shopping experience awaits that can then be topped off with dinner and/or dessert at one of our many great restaurants or a night at one of the local theater venues downtown. Another treat under the lights on Friday nights is dessert and coffee at one of our nice
little outdoor cafes......pull up a chair, enjoy the downtown lights, and do some great people-watching.
Portsmouth NH is one of the great gems of New England, that's for sure. We're a beautiful working port, a great walking seaside small city, and we've got loads of fabulous places for you to come and explore. Parks, theaters, restaurants, shops, history - all just waiting for you!
Once you come for a visit, you'll want to make this area your new home - I LOVE living here, and I know you will, too, if you're looking to make a move!

We have some beautiful old buildings here in Portsmouth as well as in many of the local area towns. Portsmouth has an awesome downtown - a perfect walking town.

Kaye - Well come on over the East Coast, and we'll shop and shop! Portsmouth is even more so when you see it in person. Pictures never capture the real essence of a place, and you really have to visit Portsmouth to really experience it. Can you tell I LOVE living here?!?!?!?

Ann..There was a Gallery store I loved(Glass) I think it was Simply Mudd ? Is it still there? it was at the four street intersection near the water.
We haven't been in in about 2 years!

Looking at the photos and reading the shop names, it's nice to find a corner of America that hasn't been overrun by strip malls or the giant megamalls. It looks like this is an area where customer relationships come first and business is a distant second. And congrats on sneaking over the 100K mark!

i always marveled at the great restaurants and wondered how we could support them as i visited for another fantastic lunch or dinner.
the oar house was always a favorite.
Hey Jay - it sounds like you figured out ways to support them! We've got even more now - you should venture up for a visit, a long enough visit to enjoy several meals here in Portsmouth! The Oar House is still there, too - come on up!
