When I awoke this morning, I went about my daily routine around the house and per usual I looked out the front window to check out the weather.
The birdbath that sits in our front garden was iced over as expected this past week or two but there was something different? It was as if someone had stolen into our yard and sprinkled powdered detergent into the bird bath? Who would do such a thing? Then I said to myself, "that isn't what that is", so I began to scan the scene more closely........
I glimpsed at the front deck and sure enough the white powder was there too.
I grabbed my camera and headed for the door but immediately thought...."if it is snow then it is cold out" so I donned my winter jacket, scarf and gloves then proceeded out to take pictures.
Snow flakes were floating in the air. What we here in New England consider SNISH (a snow shower) or as my mom calls it a spit of snow.
My car had snow on it, just a dusting, the edges of the grass had a distinct area covered in the white stuff and the gardens still adorned in late fall green and browns were sprinkled with the white powder.
This was my reminder to get the remainder of the lawn furniture in, rake the remaining leaves, take in the garden ornaments and prepare for winter in New Hampshire.
We just never know, here in New Hampshire, how the weather will be from one day to the next never mind from one season to another. Some years we get a lot of snow and others just a few inches here and there.
I think that is a great part of the beauty of living in New England. We just never know what to expect so we try to be ready for anything. It tends to make us a hardy bunch. We can roll with the punches.
I am primed for our first substantial snowfall now. I have a long "to do" list for the day so I better get started. Winter is coming and snow is in the air. Have a great day:)

It just missed my part of Michigan, but the threat pushed me out the door to dig up the last of the tender plants and put away the garden statues. Let it snow.
Judy, I feel your pain. It snowed at our Minnesota home about 2 weeks ago -- it melted the same day. But, this morning there is another thin layer on the outdoor furniture and BBQ. I thought I had a few more weeks to finish raking, cleaning the windows and winterizing, but it's HERE now.
Oh well. Enjoy it. Spring is on the way.
Have a great weekend.
Happy sailing ... _/)

Snow...and I was just complaining because our temps were in the mid 50s this morning. Thanksfully it will be back in the 80s soon!
You are just a few miles away and we barely had frost on the vehicles. I didn't notice any of what you saw. Maybe we were just out the way of the clouds or just maybe I woke up a little later than you. LOL
Well, I know it got down to freezing early this a.m., but we didn't see any white stuff in Nashua! I think it is just a matter of time -- darn -- there are still leaves on the trees! It is way to early for snow.
90 and plenty of sun here today.....not a flake in the sky!
Judy - How awesome is that! I really miss the snow! We get ice here and they want to close everything down for days!! It's hilarious! But I really, really miss the beauty of snow. There's nothing like it! I think I may have to move your way!
Snow...Oh Boy! I'm simply not ready for that yet. My car was covered with frost but no snow...yet!
Stay warm!
Moni - Just get in the moho and head south so you'll be safe:)
Linda - Are you native to New England or some place else north? I read and hear about places down south and how a little snow or ice shuts them down for days. Seems funny but I guess if you aren't prepared???
Gaylen - Enjoy the warmth - I'll be needing more sun and warm temps by March
Joan - maybe it was just near the coast-it has been frosty these past couple weeks
Jay - By the time the big guy got up most of it had melted
Gary - thanks for stopping by. this is the time of year when we could have 70 or 20 you just never know. do you ever get snow?
Paul - thanks for stopping by - I can't imagine winter starting in October - you are far north - brrrrrrrrr
Karen - thank you for your comment. I think you may get more cold in Michigan than we do here. Ths is about average getting our first flakes but the last few years we haven't seen much prior to Thanksgiving.
Thank you to all my 1st time visitors. Come back again sometime:)
I'd love to head south! I'm heading to Vegas on Tuesday and I will be attending the big AR bash....did you see Jonathan's the post on it? It should be a blast!
Hi Judy - I'm from East Tennessee in the Smoky Mountains...a little bit different from Texas! I LOVE New England, though. I had an aunt who lived in Boston and we used to visit some.
Judy....I'm not a fan of snow ~ except on Christmas morning (or in pictures!). They're predicting snow next week here, we'll see.
Moni - I didn't realize you were going to convention. Is Jay going also? I wish I could be there. I scanned over the blog about the AR bash. Sounds like fun. Maybe next year.
Linda - I hear the Smokey Mountains are beautiful. We once travelled thru there after an ice storm - oh my what a mess - so many trees broken. I think perhaps the area in terrain is quite similar to NH but warmer. I know from reading Moni's blog that you have travelled New England this past year vicariously and I guess we can look at it as if you were along with us too because a lot of the time we travel with Moni & Jay. I know you call your husband Jay's twin, I call my husband "the big guy". TTYL
Hi Jodi - welcome - I thought it only rained in Washington state unless you are in the mountains? Spokane is a bit inland right? I don't remember my geography as well as I should. The first snow if the season when everything is blanketed in white is my favorite - it is so beautiful but it gets old too fast. thanks for dropping by, come again
No Jay is staying home. I hate going alone! I am rooming with an other agent and only staying for 3 days. Going mianly because of my committee obligation. but I'm excited about the AR party, the Bloggercon and the bloggers booth. Should be fun.
Judy,
I grew up in New York and went many times - upstate NY - New Hampshire, Vermont and other New England areas. Let me just say living in San Diego I do miss the weather. Your post reminded my of the things I'm missing. Time to plan a visit back to New England. Thanks!
Mike Lewis
LOL we had snow here in Wisconsin today YIKES!!! I am not ready for this white stuff yet... I still need to mopw the yard one last time... grrrrrrrrr that OLE MAN WINTER..
We are from Iowa and it was 55 day and sunny. People are still golfing!
Gary& Melynda - the beauty of new England is that it could get that warm again here at any time even in the dead of winter:)
Rod - Wisconsin is more north than us. Ready or not we had some today but it all melted. If it snows enough then it will cover what we don't finish in the yard:)
Mike - I lived in CA for a year and missed the season change a lot in fact I made my husband bring me to Lake Tahoe after Thanksgiving to look for some foliage - it just doesn't exist out there. How did you make out in all those fires out there? I hope all of you and yours are well.
Moni - Enjoy the rain events and please blog about it so I can go vicariously with you:) Have fun.
Judy,
Thanks for the concern. We all survived although a couple scrapes and bruises.
Mike Lewis
I'm one of the crazy people I guess. I am hoping for alot of snow here in Ohio. I love the winter!! LET IT SNOW
Chad - Thanks for stopping by - no reason to think you are crazy - a lot of people here in NH love snow otherwise our state would empty out in the winter, instead skiiers and snow lovers come here from all over New England to enjoy our beautiful White Mountains in the winter. I have a freind that lives in Ohio and he loves snow too, I know you guys get a lot of it.
Mike - I am glad to hear you all faired well during the fires. Perhaps you all need a trip to New England to help put it all behind you:)
Jude...I wish you could come with me. I'm not used to going alone as Jay always attends the conventions with me. Oh well...there is always DC and next year the convention will be in Orlando.
Moni - I would love to go but this week promises to be a busy one. yipeee busy is good especially in this market. Orlando is much more doooable and with no house in the spring perhaps we can do DC.
Judy, good thing you are getting things put away since soon, you'll be undated with a lot of white stuff! It sure is pretty to look at when it's coming down.
Dang that global warming, how dare it send snow early! I'm not so big on the snow anymore, but I do still wish for it just to see my kids' faces when they wake up to fresh snow on the ground.
Todd - Not to worry too soon. Here in NH the weather changes dramatically and they are now predicting we could see temps in the 60's this week! I do know what you mean about the kids though, my grandchildren love the white stuff and are thrilled to see the first flakes every year. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.
Gena - Thanks for stopping by - yes we got things put away but as they say, if you are in New England and you don't like the weather, just wait a minute - it will change. Temps predicted in the 60's this week!
Come visit us in Tucson! It's 54 right now, but going up to 76 by noon!
Mike in Tucson
Yes! I saw this snow on the 9th!!! YUCK!!! I was leaving my house and immediatly called the kids from the car and told them to look out the window, and as usual they were screaming with JOY!!!! Oh My, I was screaming in HORROR! hehe!
Mike - Thanks for stopping in - I've been reading your posts about AZ and am tempted to at the very least visit your neck of the woods.
Kim - Welcome to you but not so sure about winter quite yet although I do tend to be like one of the kids when I see flakes falling from the sky.
Judy I was in New Hampshire on Oct.29th and it was a brisk 34 degrees- A bit too cold for my thin Florida blood. The photos are great. Snow is most appreciated from afar! Thinking of you, from the sunbelt!
Allison - Thanks for dropping by - I do think of Florida on some of those long winter nights toward the end of February and into March when I'm ready for it all to go away but for the most part, I love the snow. It cleans the air so my Mom says.
