Holy cow Monika, That is some local content! This is excellent. Makes me kind of embarrassed with mine so far. I think you just raised the bar for us all. Well done!

OMG...Thank you Mark! I don't know what to say your stuff is all so awesome...I don't compare at all!

Plus my links are busted (:   I have to go fix them.

Thanks

Moni

Monika - VERY NICELY done!!!  If I didn't already live in THE place to live in NH, I might give some thought to your area!  ;-)

I love how you included links to your other posts on the local area at the end of your post - I might borrow that idea for future posts of my own - NICE!!

Ann

I love your local content post Monika - who better to direct you to different places but people that actually live there.  GREAT STUFF!

Geez, Monika... you really know how to sell people on your area.  That's some great information and the photos are great - did you take them yourself?

Hiya Moni! You made me nostalgic - what a beautiful post. The best part about New England is how close everything is. Skiing, hiking, beaches, food, natural beauty, bears, food LOL   Wtg gf!

Thanks Ines...I live in such a small town that I have to write about a area...thankfully I do love my area ;)

Leanne...I took most them...Jay took some and the white water kayaking one someone else took of me screaming with my mouth wide open in that little yak!!!I thought I was done for and the rocks were so very big. The skiing shot...LOL I am the only one still standing every one else went down like dominoes..really funny in real life. The photo shows the skies in motion!

Carole..Bears..yup had one in my camp site last summer..he walked in my fire pit and made a noise like a big horse... poor thing probably burned his foot...umm paw..what ever it's called.

Monika, I have been through there on a few occasions and you are right, it is beautiful, and you did a great job expressing that in the Post.

Thanks so much George!  I appreciate your comments.

Beautiful place Monika, and very nicely done.  Is that Keene in the photo?

Nope...one is a school in Kingston NH and the other the white building is the Hampstead Town hall.

Thanks Karen for commenting.

Monika,

Nice job with the rundown of the area. We sold our house in Derry on Big Island Pond last spring and moved down to South Carolina. Got tired of the high housing costs, and winters. A big reason we bought the home we did down here was because of seeing the NE Patriots and RedSox bumper stickers on a car in the neighborhood. That family had moved down from Hampstead. Well, if you have any clients heading south, give me a buzz I'd be more than happy to help you out. BTW, it seems like you know your stuff, and I wish I had an agent up there who was as thorough. We bought and sold our house through an agent that used to be with Prudential Verani in Hampstead. The experience definitely could have been better.

Hi Francis. Sorry about your bad experience with a Pru Verani agent! We're definitely not all created alike!  Big Island pond is awesome...Jay and I have kayaked out there and love it.   We don't live on the pond but have friends who do and they let us put our boats in.  You probably left just in time...the market is really slow here.

We'll be down your way the end of March hopefully! going to myrtle beach...you any where near there?

I'll definitely add you to my referral list!! Thank so much for commenting!

I enjoyed Big Island pond, eventhough most of our time spent in the neighborhood involved fixing up our home. I didn't really get to enjoy the pond as much as I would have liked. We had an inexpensive home for the area so I'm sure we still would have been able to sell it, but I think we left just in time more because of the flooding last spring. That pond must have gotten really high. I'm sure our former property must have gotten some flooding, but then again, what areas didn't?

We are about 3 hours from Myrtly Beach, but I like our central location here. We're a couple hours from the beach, the mountains of NC or Charlotte, and a couple ours from Atlanta. We visited Myrtle Beach for the first time last month, and it was pretty nice. If you've been there, then you know what to expect, but if not expect to see a lot of businesses/hotels. We also stopped by Charleston, which is about an hour away. Very nice, quite a few older homes right on the water. If you head that way, try to find the visitor's center, they gave us a map of things to see.

We're planning on coming down in our motor home.  I figure by then we'll need a break from winter and it's bound to be little warmer down there.

I've been there once for a conference but my husband hasn't ever been. We'll be staying at a big RV resort on the  beach. I'm hoping it will be mild weather and that we have a nice spot on the beach.

Big island pond is a pretty popular pond and usually holds it's value. 500 acres make it one of the biggest ponds/lakes in Southern NH.  I'll have to research your place.  Did you have a RE license while in NH?

How is your market down there? I bet it's a nice place to work in real estate...we have an agent up here who wants to relocate down there...near Charleston somewhere. She is looking into getting her license down there.

Sounds like it should be a nice trip. This weekend it's supposed to be in the 70s, so hopefully you'll get similar weather when you're down.
I have just gotten my license since being down here in SC. I always thought about getting into real estate before, but things never worked out. Our home was in Collette's Grove. Definitely not a great neighborhood, but it was what we could afford in the area.
Our area here in the Midlands is growing nicely. The prices are very broad, so we have a large variety of buyers. Homes range from below $100k and do go up into the millions. We are right near Lake Murray, which I believe has to be larger than Winnipausaukee. It's a beautiful lake, with very reasonable property prices right on the lake. I'd definitely suggest for anyone to look in this area. We're right next to the capital of Columbia, where the University of South Carolina is located, so we have a good amount of activity with the school nearby. College football is HUGE here.
As for Charleston, I really liked it there. Many older homes, and a lot of southern culture. I have heard that prices along the coast have been affected by the storms in recent years, and that property insurance has skyrocketed, but she'll have to verify that. Like I said, it's just what I've heard.

( 01/10/07 05:15PM ) — Francis & Michelle Arsenault

I keep telling people how big Lake Murray is, but I've just been speculating to this point. I just looked up the information. Lake Winnepausaukee supposedly has a shoreline of 182 miles, whereas Lake Murray has a shoreline of over 500 miles. It also covers over 50,000 acres. WOW. I thought it was huge, but that was way beyond my estimate.

Wow...That is huge!! Jay and I camped on Lake Ontario in NY last summer...it was so huge I thought it looked like the ocean.

Your area sounds real nice!  You pant a nice picture about it. I hope we get time to explore the area a little bit. I have a distant cousin in NC that I want to look up to see how far away it is from where we'll be.

Good old Collette's Grove which house was yours?   I've shown many homes over there.

I've heard about the insurance issues all along the coast down there especially in Florida.

 Thanks

It is nice down here. I grew tired of winters. I envy you guys with the motorhome. Hopefully some day we'll be able to do something like that. I love to drive and that would be a perfect way to see the country in my opinion.

We lived at 612, right next to a pink house. The neighbor's house started as grey with pink, but then she decided to paint it pink with white trim.

LOL..I know that pink house!! We love the motor home and have it all set up to work out of. We try and spend some time at the beach either Hampton State Park or Salisbury State Park. So when we're there we leave only for appointments...have the printer set, up- e-fax  and laptops and we're good to go.

I'm tired of winter and ready to head south..just can't do it yet!  Sooooonnnn I hope.

That color kind of etches itself into your memory, doesn't it. Not the best choice for a house color.
Sounds like you have a mobile office there. Nice deal.
It hasn't been too warm here this week, mostly in the 50s. It is supposed to be in the 70s over the weekend I think. Looking forward to that.

Leanne is right.. what a great local entry.  I am so glad her weekly review brought it to my attention.

Love the information on your area, I now feel like I have to put it on my list of places to visit.

Great post, Monika. I love what you wrote, and the photos are wonderful. I think this would be inspiring to anyone thinking about buying in New Hampshire (used to be my neighbor, but no more!!).
