AFC Championship Game Patriots vs. Colts

New England Patriots vs the Indianapolis Colts

New England Patriots winners of the last two playoff games between these two teams travel to Indianapolis to take on the team that has defeated them the last two times they have played each other. Both of those games were in New England.

The Patriots will need to contain Peyton Manning and their wide receivers Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. The biggest threat is Manning sitting in the pocket picking off the Patriots defensive backs. The Pats defense will need to force Manning out of the pocket and make him throw on the run or off his back foot. This will allow the Pats db's to get in good position to cover Harrison and Wayne.

The Colts will need to stop Tom Brady and their running backs Laurence Maroney and Corey Dillon. The Colts have one of the best defensive ends in the league in Dwight Freeney. All I have been hearing is how great the Colts defense has improved and all I have to say is look who they played a real inept KC Chiefs team and a sloppy Steve McNair and the Baltimore Ravens. I will say they do have a healthy Bob Sanders defensive back who is noted for stuffing the oppositions running game.

The Patriots are 8-1 on the road this year and the Colts are 9-0 at home.

The Colts are a high powered offense but were lacking in the defensive department this year as they were dead last against the run. They gave up 5.3 yds per carry and a total of 173 yds per game. The Pats gave up 94.2 yds per game and 3.9 yds per carry. This will be a key statistic if the Pats are to win.

Tom Brady has found two of his receivers coming in on their own this late in the season. peaking at the right time so to speak. They are Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney these players have really shined as of late. They may not be Harrison and Wayne but no one else is either. They are great receivers and pose a very real threat to the Pats march to Miami.

How much money do I win, Jay, if I pick the Pats?  Ok ok, it's not hard, after the way the Colts 'slunk' out of Baltimore, who can cheer them on? Not me. :-)

What time is this game on?  My mother just called and asked if we had a TV in our living room yet so they can watch the game when they come over.  Now I have to get one of the boys to put a TV in the LR.

Carole, not sure how much money you'd win but this is going to be great game. One the Colts are at home and have beaten the Pats the last two times they have met. I can't wait....

Chris the game starts at 6:30 PM tonight. Maybe you can get rid of them before that. LOL

( 01/21/07 09:24AM ) — Cynthia Sloop

Yeah COLTS!  Of course I'm going to root for Colts, I'm in Indianapolis!  The team spirit is very abundant here, even though it is snowing and getting messy out.  I will be watching the game, it should be a good one!

( 01/21/07 09:33AM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Cynthia I'm sure the city is buzzing and the Colts are a good team. I am nervous a little and only hope the Pats can contain Peyton and shut him down. He has good receivers and he is playing at home which should help.

GO PATS !!!

It's my twins birthday party.  We got pinatas.  They're turning 19.  We filled my son's pinata with beef jerky and slim jims.  My daugters is full of Mike &  Ikes candy.  The pinata for a 19 year old is funny, but when the beef jerky comes out, there should be a lot of laughing.

Oh, Mom called again and asked me not to put the flat screen tv in the living room because Dad wants one and it will give him ideas.  LOL  I'm showing it to him right off the bat!  This will be good.

I'm so excited and so nervous!!!!! My boys better win!!!!

Go Pats!!!

I'm going to Sea World today.

After making so many clutch kicks for the Patriots, will Adam Vinatieri do the same today for the Colts and break hearts all across New England? I'm hoping for a Colts/Saints Super Bowl.

( 01/21/07 01:22PM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Chris enjoy the party and make sure no one gets hurts hitting the pinata. Nothing worse than having the ambulance coming to the house for a child's birthday party. LOL

Monika don't be nervous. Our boys will win.

Brian  enjoy your day and if the Pats weren't playing I'm sure I'd be somewhere else too.

John you may be right but then again it will come down to who really wants it. Looks like a lot of sports figures are looking to pick Indy. They should win just given the fact they are at home.

I've been told the antichrist attends birthday parties in the form of a pinata.  Someone always gets hurt.  A group of grown ups with a bat and a turtle pinata has "injury" written all over. it.

I have a bet with my girlfriend on this game and I took the Colts but either way it will be a great football game. Both quarterbacks are very talented and have multiple weapons at their disposal. I'll be watching :)

( 01/21/07 01:52PM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Chris  have a great day.

Toby you know you can't win for losing against your girlfriend. Too bad the Seahawks couln't have pulled it off.

It will be a great game and I can't wait.

Thanks Jay

Jay i agree with you. The Pats own the Colts in the playoffs and this will continue. The patriots are masters at game planning.

( 01/21/07 03:36PM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Eddy I hope so but don't forget the Colts are at home and the Pats need to take the fans out of the game real quick. They need to contain Manning and keep him from passing to Harrison and Wayne. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

GO PATS!!!

And Tom Brady is 10 and 0 in a domed stadium in the playoffs, and 22 and 0 in his career in domed stadiums!!!!!

Of course, the Colts have "Automatic Adam"........let's hope it's not a game of field goals only.

GO PATS!!!             Go Patriots          Patriots                        Ann

( 01/21/07 04:10PM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Ann  I take it the other 12 was when he was in college?

Go Pats!!!

Doesn't make any difference who wins, Da Bears go all the way.

Well the Bears did win their game, and now it's time for the Pats to win theirs!!!

Jay - I meant games that weren't playoffs - should have worded that a little differently.
Playoff record - 9 and 0 in domed stadiums, and regular games 22 and 0 in domed stadiums.

OMG - did you just see that fumble recovered in the end zone?!?!!?!??  Holy cow!!

( 01/21/07 07:27PM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Dave Bears played real well today congratulations. First time they have been to a Superbowl in 21 years. That was the year they pummeled the Patriots. Let's hope the Pats can hang on and head to Miami.

Ann  Pats are playing good ball Indy hasn't scored a TD in 6 quarters going all the way back to the KC game.

Pats need to stop the Colts at the start of the second half. They can be explosive... DEFENSE

GO PATS!!!

Well they didn't stop them at the start of the 2nd half, but the Patriots are ahead again after the Colts tied it at 21.

GO PATRIOTS!!

Ann

Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts for an extremely well played game. They sure did show us how home field advantage is crucial. They played the better game when it counted.

Now go on and beat the Bears...

( 01/21/07 09:28PM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Ann you just can't count peyton Manning out, ever.

The Pats had a great season and I am proud of them for going as far as they did.

( 01/21/07 11:02PM ) — Eddy Martinez

Manning and the colts finally got past the Pats. THe Pats defense just got tired and bradys int was crucial.................................

( 01/21/07 11:25PM ) — Rick Beal

It was nice to see!  Payton made the plays when he had to and Brady didn't.

Well, I guess I'll see you at Sea World in two weeks, Jay.  Football is so overrrated.

Peyton has now gotten that monkey off his back - now let's see if they can win the Super Bowl.  I'll be pulling for them!  "Automatic Adam" certainly played a nice role in his teams' win over the Patriots.  Perhaps he;ll get to add another Super Bowl ring to his collection.

Baseball season is getting closer.....  ;-)

Ann

Eddy the Colts are a very good team and yes the interception was crucial but the key play was when the Pats had 3rd and 4 and Brady threw to Evans and he wasn't able to make a first down that kind of sealed their fate. Also, when Reche Caldwell dropped an easy pass from Brady when he was wide open on the right side of the field.

Rick Manning finally won a big game. I do think the Colts will win the Super Bowl.

Brian I'll be home watching this one. Overrated? Maybe....

Ann Peyton has finally won a big game and I do believe they will Super Sunday.

Spring training is right around the corner.

Thanks Jay

I was joking, JAY  !!!!!  (Although we did go to Sea World yesterday)

( 01/22/07 12:26PM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Brian I hear you, glad you had a good time. A lot of depressed people in New England today. LOL

Have a good one. Jay

( 01/22/07 12:43PM ) — Eddy Martinez

Jay another key play in the game was late in the fourth quarter when the Pats had a 3rd and 10 and they ran a draw play. That didnt make much sense to me , they were already in field goal range.

( 01/22/07 01:22PM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Eddy they were probably trying to catch them off guard maybe?

Late penalties hurt too like too many players in the huddle. That was a real bonehead play.

( 01/22/07 01:25PM ) — Rick Beal

Not to mention the bad clock management in the last 2 minutes by the bench, you've got to stop the clock a couple of times during the Colts last drive.

Rick that was actually discussed a lot on talk radio this morning and I think they thought they were able to hold them to a field goal. All of it would have been a mute point only if the Pats were able to get a first down when they had 3rd and 4. Oh well it was a great year none the less.

( 01/22/07 03:26PM ) — Eddy Martinez

Jay that might of been the case but indy was ready for anything on that drive. Bradys late interception sealed their fate.

( 01/22/07 04:56PM ) — Jay McGillicuddy~Real Estate Broker

Eddy Indy basically whooped the Pats in the second half and really took control of the game and handed them their head on a silver platter.

Oh well, there is always next year.

Jay-I just read your blog today.  Sorry about your Pat's.  I am so excited about my Bears!  I cant beleive that it has been 21 years for them since they were in the Super Bowl.  At that time, I was a young buck Sergeant in the Army and now I am retired from the Army!  You are lucky enough to see the Pats in the post season very often.  So is it the Bears or Indy for you now?

Dave it would have been nice to see the Pats beat the Bears again but the Pats just ran out of gas. Talk here is they left a lot in San Diego and although a few had the flu their defense just got to tired.

Hats off to Indy and I really think this year the Colts will win. They have a very powerful offense and they have a lot of momentum. I just don't see the Bears being able to contain the Colts.

Sorry but the Colts by 7.

Thanks Jay
